Pink Tutu Rome: Post 1769 - The Eternal City in Pink!

Hello my darlings!

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Pink Tutu Rome adventure, and trust me, this one’s a corker! Buckle up your ballet shoes, because we're diving headfirst into the Eternal City, all the way from Derbyshire, England!

This week, I’m dancing through Rome, a city that has been on my dream list since I was a little girl twirling in my first tutu. It’s a city overflowing with history, romance, and of course, fashion, the three pillars of my world. And you bet I’m wearing pink – actually, a stunning hot pink tutu, because, let's face it, when in Rome…you’ve just gotta rock the pink!

My journey to Rome was pure magic, of course. There’s something about stepping aboard a train and leaving your troubles at the station. It’s my favourite way to travel, particularly since the views from the carriage window can be so breathtaking. I adore seeing the world whizz by as I imagine myself starring in a whirlwind ballet production! The journey to Rome felt extra special because I’d finally secured tickets to see Giselle, one of my all-time favourite ballets, performed in a stunning 18th century theatre – the Teatro Argentina, built by the renowned architect Nicola Salvi. Just picturing myself gliding across the stage in my pink tutu, set against the opulent backdrop, had me squealing with excitement!

Once I reached the beautiful bustling streets of Rome, I felt an undeniable pull towards the Fontana di Trevi. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain, you’re guaranteed a return to the Eternal City – and I have every intention of coming back! It’s easy to see why it’s a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, and of course, the gorgeous marble and sculptures provide a fantastic backdrop for a photo op (or twenty!).

That night, I found myself at a balletto di strada, or street ballet, performance. I was captivated! It was amazing seeing these talented artists captivating a crowd with their energy and grace. Even if they weren't wearing a pink tutu! I did make a new friend though, a talented young ballerina named Giulia, and I absolutely had to buy her a pink tutu. She was a natural. Let’s just say we bonded over our love of the colour pink and the incredible experience of performing in front of a live audience! I truly believe ballet should be accessible to everyone, no matter their age or location, and to see Giulia showcasing her skills with such confidence was incredibly inspiring.

As a girl who simply cannot resist a good shopping spree, I felt a thrill heading towards Via Condotti, the most prestigious shopping street in all of Rome. With designer boutiques lining the pavements, I was spoilt for choice! After perusing all the beautiful handbags and shoes I could handle, I ended up taking home a stunning pink scarf for myself, naturally! I mean, come on, how could I not?

After a leisurely stroll around the historical sights, including the Colosseum (another amazing photo opportunity, let me tell you!), and a gelato break (seriously, this city is all about food!), I found myself at the Teatro Argentina waiting for my highly anticipated performance of Giselle.

It truly was a night I won't forget. The dancers were magnificent, the orchestra was superb, and the theatre itself was truly breathtaking. I was lost in the world of the ballet, transported by the emotions and storytelling unfolding on stage. I might have shed a tear or two, even if they were hidden behind my meticulously chosen pink mascara. I even saw some people wearing pink tutus, I couldn't believe it!

Rome is definitely the kind of place that stays with you, a city steeped in culture and magic. And don’t even get me started on the food - the pasta, pizza, and even gelato were beyond delicious. I was in my element, my sweet tooth getting its fill!

This pink tutu adventure isn't ending there, my dears! In the next blog post, I'll be exploring the hidden gems of Rome, delving deeper into the Roman catacombs and perhaps even experiencing a traditional balletto italiano performance.

Don't forget to keep checking www.pink-tutu.com every Wednesday to see where my pink tutu takes me next! I can't wait to share more magical experiences with you.

Sending all my love and twirls,

Emma

P.S. Don't forget, wearing pink is a lifestyle, not just a choice! ? ?
