Ciao Bella! It’s Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu enthusiast, and this week we're waltzing into the Eternal City! Yes, my dears, I've swapped Derbyshire for the ancient streets of Rome and I'm positively giddy! As you know, Wednesdays are for my Pink Tutu travel diaries, and this one's overflowing with pastel pink loveliness, Italian gelato, and enough fashion inspiration to make your head spin!
As always, I’m funded by my beloved ballet performances, a system that allows me to flit around the globe and bring a little sparkle to every corner I explore. I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to share my love of dance and travel with you all. But enough about me, let’s get to the exciting bits!
Rome, you say? Where do we start?
Well, let’s start with the train journey. Ah, the train! It’s truly a romantic way to travel. Sitting by the window, imagining all the stories the landscape whispers… just perfect! Of course, I was sporting a fabulous new pink tutu for the occasion – this one adorned with delicate Italian lace. And yes, it turned heads!
Landing in Rome, the first thing I saw was the Colosseum, an impressive feat of engineering and a true testament to the city’s vibrant history. My first order of business was a little "Pink Tutu shopping therapy". I simply couldn’t resist a new outfit for the occasion - a vibrant hot pink frock with delicate ruffles and an elegant black belt, perfect for showing off the tutu. (Naturally, this is the new tutu I am going to wear in tonight’s ballet performance – a charming Italian gentleman saw me on the train, he runs a theatre, and asked me to participate! So excited!).
Lunchtime Delights
Next, a spot of al fresco lunch – and of course, I've had my fill of delicious pasta! Now, a proper Italian lunch is an experience in itself. The bustling outdoor cafes, the vibrant chatter, the endless options for pasta, all contribute to an air of joyful exuberance. But my highlight had to be the gelato. Creamy, delicious, and infinitely photogenic. Oh, my pink tutu, it simply pairs perfectly with every flavour under the Italian sun!
Discovering Rome's Artistic Treasures
My next stop: The Vatican Museum! The Sistine Chapel... I can only describe it as awe-inspiring. It felt like the ceilings were whispering with divine beauty. Then, a walk through St. Peter’s Square. It's absolutely enormous! I took a moment to simply breathe in the history, the faith, and the undeniable spirit of the place. And yes, you guessed it, my pink tutu was definitely causing a stir among the devout!
An Evening of Romance
Tonight, it's the ballet. But first, I’m going to visit The Trevi Fountain. As a fellow ballet enthusiast, I'm well aware that Rome's history is laced with captivating narratives, and The Trevi Fountain is steeped in a story of romance that goes back centuries. It’s simply magical. I took a deep breath, threw a coin in the fountain (making a wish for future travel and endless tutus, of course) and made sure I posed with my back to the fountain for a perfectly dramatic photo!
An Italian Night to Remember
After my performance at the local theater (I’m going to take a photograph for my website when I’m in my tutu! Pink tulle will go with everything!) I went out for an authentic Italian meal in a charming trattoria hidden away in the heart of the city. The music, the food, and the company were wonderful. A few local artists who have been following my travels are coming for a meal to hear all about my adventures and discuss fashion! I love their bold artistic energy and flamboyant flair, we’re even discussing my costume for my new ballet piece at the Derbyshire Grand Theatre this September!
Pink Tutu on the Runway
Tomorrow, I’ll be visiting The Pantheon. I know what you’re thinking... "But Emma, The Pantheon has no connection to fashion!.." Not true, my loves! I’ve found a tiny vintage clothes boutique nestled next door – full of retro loveliness. It's the perfect place to find a chic, vintage piece to complement my Pink Tutu in the most charming, timeless, way. (And don't even get me started on the amazing photos I’m planning in front of The Pantheon!… stay tuned).
A Farewell to the Eternal City
My journey in Rome is nearing its end, and as I board the train back, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. This beautiful city has stolen a little piece of my heart. And it wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu Rome experience without me wearing a new tutu. But this time, it’s a pale lilac one – with exquisite silver embroidery, designed especially for my Rome farewell performance at the station. A spectacular grand finale.
Rome, you’ve charmed me beyond measure! Until next week, keep spinning and stay sassy! And don’t forget to wear your Pink Tutu with pride!
P.S. Stay tuned for my new ballet piece featuring Rome’s vibrant history! I can’t wait to share my creative process on the blog.
Ciao, my darlings! Emma xoxo
