Buongiorno from beautiful, bustling Rome! This week, #PinkTutuRome has arrived, my little pink-loving heart aflutter with excitement for this amazing city. Remember how I told you about my latest ballet tour, "Tutus Around the World"? Well, this is the very next stop! And just look at this view, darling – sunshine dappling through the ancient arches of the Roman Forum, my perfectly pink tutu twirling gently in the breeze. There's no better place to be a #PinkTutuGirlie than here!
Now, before I delve into my day's adventures, a quick catch up on last week's escapade - my fabulous trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! I took the stage with my fellow ballerina sisters, "The Pink Tutu Posse", for an electrifying performance of Cinderella on Roller Skates. Imagine – all the classic fairytale drama, mixed with some '90s punk rock vibe and some incredible roller-skating skills! It was electrifying! The crowds absolutely adored it, and the atmosphere was so magical.
Of course, no Edinburgh adventure is complete without some good old-fashioned shopping. You know me – can't resist a vintage shop with its dusty treasures. Found myself a beautiful, fuschia-hued scarf with tiny dancing figurines that practically screamed vintage Italian ballet! Perfect for adding a dash of glamour to my already impressive collection.
Speaking of glamour, the journey down to Rome was absolutely splendid. I opted for a train ride from Edinburgh – you see, darling, there's just something so romantic about train travel, the rhythmic sway, the changing landscapes… It's almost as inspiring as watching the world through the wings of a theatre!
Rome didn’t disappoint. From the moment my train pulled into the grand Termini station, I knew I was in for a treat! My little Italian apartment – all white stone, terracotta tiles, and fragrant basil growing on the balcony – is perfectly charming. It even has a hidden little courtyard perfect for some impromptu pas de deux rehearsals (don't tell my neighbours, it's our little secret!).
Naturally, I spent the rest of the day exploring! The ancient ruins are breathtaking, and I spent a good chunk of time simply soaking up the history in the Colosseum. Can you imagine the crowds, the gladiators, the roar of the audience, the scent of sweat and leather? It's a history buff's dream, darling!
And for my final treat, a breathtaking performance by the Rome Opera House! I am lucky enough to be attending the premier of "Carmen" on Thursday! Can you believe it? There’s something about attending an opera premiere that gets me even more excited than my usual pink-tutu outings, don’t you think? Perhaps I’ll try a very toned-down, pastel-hued tutu, you know, just a touch of whimsy to add to the magic!
Of course, no trip to Rome is complete without indulging in the delights of Italian food! The aroma of fresh pasta, the pungent cheeses, the crusty bread, the gelato, all just tantalising my taste buds! It's a culinary masterpiece, truly! My absolute highlight: an authentic truffle pizza – so rich, earthy and absolutely heavenly!
