Ciao bella!
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means - it's time for a new post on Pink-Tutu.com! This week, I'm writing to you from the most magical city in the world – Rome!
I’ve arrived in the Italian capital after a wonderfully scenic train journey from Venice, which was a complete adventure in itself. Travelling by train always feels so glamorous. There's something about those old carriages that fills me with such wanderlust. It's no wonder my favourite films often feature scenes in trains. It just adds that touch of romance and intrigue, don't you think?
And of course, I couldn't resist dressing for the occasion in a gorgeous new pink tutu, perfectly matching the pink rose printed blouse I found in a delightful vintage shop in Venice. This girl's gotta have pink, especially when it comes to my travel attire! Honestly, travelling in a tutu makes such a statement - you never know who you'll bump into, or what incredible experience awaits you, as soon as you step out onto the platform.
Rome has a very different atmosphere to Venice, but equally fascinating. There's this incredible energy that seems to emanate from every corner, a real sense of history that whispers to you through the ancient cobbled streets and bustling piazzas. And it's been absolute sunshine the entire time I’ve been here!
Let’s just say my camera is going wild – I'm capturing so much of it to share with you, my fabulous tutu family!
Day 1: Exploring the Heart of the Eternal City
Landing in Rome, my heart immediately started to beat faster. The air buzzed with an exciting energy - I just knew this was going to be a memorable adventure. My hotel is absolutely charming, right near the Trevi Fountain, a true piece of history that takes my breath away every time I look at it. And who could forget those legendary coins tossed into the water for wishes? I, of course, had to add mine - secretly hoping for a chance to perform at the Colosseum, can you imagine?!
Pink Tutu, Colosseum? Oh yes!
Speaking of the Colosseum, what an experience! We arrived in the morning before it got too busy, which meant I was able to soak in the awe-inspiring size and grandeur of this ancient wonder. It felt as though history was all around me - the gladiators' blood, the echoes of the crowds' cheers... It truly took me back in time, to an era where life was as dramatic and passionate as a performance in a ballet.
The Colosseum really made me consider how to include some of the architecture I see in my ballet routine, maybe some of these graceful columns, or even recreate those mighty arches with my graceful movement… just wait and see!
Day 2: A Feast for the Senses
No trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in the vibrant and delicious cuisine! Rome is like a big buffet of amazing tastes - the pizza is light and airy, with flavour combinations that are simply divine, pasta in all its glory - I must confess, I did overindulge a little bit - it’s all about finding that perfect balance, and let’s be honest, you can’t travel to Italy and not embrace its culinary delights. I made a little pact with my favourite pasta – I’ll try my best to stay fit, for all the delicious plates that await me in this incredible city!
And, as I said, food is like art in Italy. That brings me to today's ballet-related discovery. On the steps of the Pantheon, the most iconic building, there is a group of street ballet performers putting on a stunning spectacle! Talk about inspiration! You have no idea how my heart jumped with excitement seeing this! Their choreography was perfectly timed, so graceful and beautiful, so inspiring!
Day 3: Stepping Into the Ballet Scene
The last couple of days, I’ve been searching high and low for the perfect opportunity to catch a performance of "Swan Lake." The legend says it all, and when I'm in Rome, the energy seems so magical that I can only dream that maybe I could one day dance under this gorgeous, majestic, ancient Roman sky! So many people love ballet, especially here, and I was very excited to visit the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and meet the leading ballerinas! You can bet your pink tutu I’ll be keeping up-to-date with their ballet calendar and plan a trip to the next season’s performances – oh, it’s going to be incredible!
The Day That Changes Everything… Oh my!
Rome, oh Rome! What a magical adventure it’s been! I've made a whole collection of incredible memories!
But today was truly special! It all started when I found a charming shop nestled down a small cobblestone street – it had all the glitz and glam of an amazing vintage store - imagine silk and lace, beautiful ribbons and feathers and everything imaginable in a kaleidoscope of gorgeous colours… And the lady who ran it was incredible - she shared all these beautiful tales of Rome - she told me she danced for a season at the Bolshoi in Moscow – how absolutely magical and inspiring is that?! I wanted to jump and shout out loud – I mean this woman is my absolute hero!
And then, you will never guess, I discovered, oh I simply can't believe it! It’s all happened so quickly! I met someone… it's true… I’m speechless… It just happened – and that’s a feeling we can’t describe! He’s incredible! He actually works on stage design for some of Rome’s famous opera houses, so imagine the possibilities?! I’m telling you – it's truly an exciting time to be a ballet dancer, but honestly, it's about finding that special someone, and today - Today, my life is transformed.
I have found such an exciting person! You know when something just feels right?! Oh, my friends, I am so overjoyed – I truly believe this will be the most incredible chapter in my journey so far – how amazing!
And today – we are planning a picnic in Villa Borghese Gardens! Now, we are taking the perfect ballet moves and sharing those with each other! I have a feeling it’s the start of something special - and I’ll be posting it all next week – don’t forget to check out Pink-Tutu.com - #PinkTutuRome!
So until next week, be sure to share your adventures with me and keep those tutus twirling! Ciao bella!
