Ciao bella! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, back from a whirlwind week in Rome!
You guys know I love travelling by train – something about the rhythmic click-clack of the wheels, the changing scenery, the anticipation…it feels so romantic and lets me fully embrace the adventure. This week, I set off from my little Derbyshire village to the heart of Italy, with a head full of dreams of ancient ruins, creamy gelato, and, of course, a pink tutu or two!
And, Rome? It didn’t disappoint. #PinkTutuRome is here to stay!
The Roman Holiday: Ballet in the Eternal City
First things first, Rome is just buzzing with life, from the honking scooters to the lively conversations at the cafe tables. It’s an energy that radiates outward and immediately puts you in a good mood. And I’m a huge believer that good vibes equal better dancing, so I knew this would be a magical week.
Speaking of dancing, I spent a glorious afternoon in a small but absolutely gorgeous ballet studio in Trastevere, tucked away in a cobbled alleyway. They had these gorgeous chandeliers, it was like dancing in a vintage film! The class was packed, with local Roman ballerinas and tourists like myself, all striving for grace and elegance in the beautiful Italian sunshine.
I’m so glad I wore my pink tutu! It’s definitely become my travel uniform, instantly bringing smiles to faces and sparking conversations wherever I go. That night, I headed to the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – an incredible venue that takes you back in time with its beautiful neoclassical architecture. The performance? Romeo and Juliet. Talk about a timeless love story, right? And to see it danced with such passion and talent in a city as steeped in history as Rome? Unforgettable.
Food and Fashion
You can’t talk about Rome without mentioning the delicious food. Oh my, the pasta! From simple spaghetti carbonara to creamy Alfredo, I sampled all the classics – and even ventured into the unknown with some delicious lamb stew at a hidden trattoria I found near the Pantheon. Don’t even get me started on the gelato. I tried a different flavour every day, from the familiar (strawberry and pistachio) to the exotic (carob and fig)!
And then there’s the fashion! I have to admit, I’m not the best with all the latest trends, I prefer classic styles and a touch of glamour. But in Rome, it's impossible not to be inspired. Every street is a fashion show – ladies wearing silk scarves with vibrant patterns, men sporting elegant tailoring with flair, it’s all so stylish. I felt like a princess in my tutu, flitting through the crowd with a twinkle in my eye!
The Colosseum and the Pink Tutu
What would a trip to Rome be without a visit to the Colosseum? It’s just breathtaking in person. Imagine the roaring crowds, the gladiators, the incredible feats of engineering – you can practically feel the echoes of history through the weathered stones.
The Colosseum itself was a natural stage, so of course, I had to capture my own ballerina moment! Think swirling tulle against a backdrop of ancient arches. The photo turned out beautifully! You’ll find it on my Instagram, naturally!
#PinkTutuRome: A Journey of Discovery
I’ve always found that when you’re on your own, travelling and exploring, you truly discover things about yourself. You face your fears, step outside your comfort zone, and embrace new experiences. This trip to Rome has been no different!
It’s shown me that even the most well-worn paths can lead to unexpected adventures, that a simple act of kindness can brighten someone’s day, and that a little pink tutu can truly make the world a more beautiful place.
