Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another instalment from the glorious city of Rome. Oh my, this place is simply divine! I landed in Rome just a few days ago, after a lovely train journey through the Italian countryside. I love travelling by train; it’s the perfect way to soak up the scenery and daydream about my next outfit!
This week has been an absolute whirlwind of sights, sounds, and a whole lot of delicious food! You all know I can't resist a good espresso and a slice of the most incredible gelato. It's all so beautifully presented too; it seems Italians appreciate the art of simply enjoying a good cuppa!
Speaking of enjoying myself, I've been doing plenty of that! Firstly, Rome has some truly fabulous vintage shops. Honestly, I could spend an entire day browsing their incredible racks and racks of beautiful clothes and accessories! Imagine my delight when I found the perfect vintage pink beret to add to my wardrobe! It's a must-have for any fashion-forward traveller like myself.
But of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without a little bit of ballet! Now, I know what you're thinking: ballet in Rome? Absolutely! It’s a city steeped in history, and what better way to celebrate that than with a stunning performance? Thankfully, I’ve stumbled across an absolutely divine little ballet studio, called "Dance Roma," and have joined their beginner class. Their syllabus focuses on Italian Ballet which is so full of heart and passion – the steps and flow of the movements are completely different from English ballet, so it's certainly been challenging. However, it's given me a whole new appreciation for the graceful, sweeping moves of this beautiful style. The students there are incredible! You should see their technique – it’s mesmerizing. It’s making me realise that we all can learn something from each other no matter what our backgrounds or styles of dance. I might just stay in Rome a little longer than I initially planned… maybe I’ll sign up for a few more classes. It’s just so delightful being surrounded by other dancers.
Now, the show that I saw last night, “Romeo and Juliet,” at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, was absolutely phenomenal! Honestly, it was almost enough to make me cry. I don’t want to give too much away (although let’s be honest, the whole world knows this classic love story), but there were some genuinely magical moments. I think it must be the atmosphere – Rome is just full of such charm and romance. I couldn't help but feel the weight of their emotions as I watched the drama unfold on stage. But enough of me gushing - you have to experience this for yourself! The performances in Rome are simply something else, a breathtaking blend of talent and passion.
My Rome itinerary (for all you pink tutu-wearing friends)
Here's the lowdown on my itinerary for this week, in case you fancy planning a pink tutu-inspired trip to Rome.
Day 1: * Arrival in Rome – train station, I'm all about those romantic arrivals! * Check into my lovely boutique hotel. – They actually have a vintage rose pink vintage bicycle I can borrow! How adorable is that? * Aperitivo in Trastevere: This is a must! Soaking up the charming atmosphere with a glass of prosecco – it’s basically pink perfection. * *Dinner with a view at the restaurant at the top of the Hotel Boscolo Exedra. – * Stunning panoramic views of Rome!
Day 2: * Breakfast of Champions: Cappuccino and brioche – what more could you ask for? * Strolling around the Spanish Steps – don’t forget your most fabulous outfit, these steps were made for photo opportunities. * Lunch with a friend: Catching up with a lovely ballet dancer I met while studying in Italy years ago. It's great to make connections! * Trevi Fountain: Throw in a coin and make a wish. You never know what might happen in the world of pink tutus and Italian romances. * Pizza! You just can’t leave Italy without eating at least one authentic pizza, can you?
Day 3: * Colosseum tour: Time to embrace a bit of history. * Lunchtime Roman pasta: Another must-have Italian culinary experience! * Borghese Gallery: Art and beauty, it’s a perfect day. * Dinner with a ballet dancer: My lovely new ballet friends at “Dance Roma.” We're going to go to the Trevi fountain with all our fancy outfits and throw in some wishes! * Day 4:* * A leisurely stroll through the Vatican: We all love some spirituality, and it is such a beautiful place, with art and culture too! * Afternoon gelato: Oh my, the gelato in Rome is unbelievable! There is just so much variety. * Dinner at my favourite Italian restaurant (the owner loves my pink tutus) – I love meeting all the locals here! Everyone is so warm and friendly!
Day 5: * A day for shopping: vintage shopping in Trastevere followed by browsing through the most stylish shops in Rome. I just had to find the perfect outfit to wear to the opera! * Drinks with my dancing pals: You never know what fun we'll have - maybe we'll get inspired to choreograph a new pink tutu ballet routine!
Day 6: * "Romeo and Juliet" at Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. I can’t wait! * A romantic stroll in a candlelit piazza: Honestly, Rome is a city just begging for romance and it feels as though there are pink tutu’s on every street corner!
Day 7: * "Dance Roma" Italian Ballet class - It’s a great way to get my creative juices flowing! * Departure. I know I’ll miss this amazing city already. Maybe I’ll just come back for another ballet lesson – maybe I’ll wear a different pink tutu to try to out-pink everyone!
Tips for your pink tutu travel:
- Remember to wear pink. That goes without saying, darling.
- A cute pink handbag to keep all your essentials.
- Comfortable shoes - if you are like me, you may be walking many miles exploring all the sights!
It’s hard to say goodbye to Rome but this city truly feels like home. The locals are welcoming, the sights are inspiring and I know I’ll definitely be back to experience even more of its magic! Until next week darlings!
