Buongiorno, my darling tutu twirlers! ? This week I've touched down in the eternal city, Rome, and I'm already head over heels (pun absolutely intended) with its enchanting beauty. It's been a whirlwind of stunning architecture, delicious food, and, of course, fabulously stylish locals!
Getting Here: Train Time
As you all know, my favourite way to travel is by train. There's something so romantic about the chugging, the winding tracks, and the views flashing past. This time, I took a sleek, high-speed train all the way from Derbyshire, England, where the crisp autumn air and golden leaves made for a perfect journey. Arriving at Rome Termini station was quite something! I love the hustle and bustle of a big station, everyone heading off on their own adventures.
My Rome Basecamp: Pink Perfection
I'm staying in the most charming little apartment right near the Colosseum. It's a tiny, traditional flat with exposed brick walls and terracotta floors - pure Italian chic! The owner is the sweetest old lady who told me all about the history of the neighbourhood. And wouldn't you know it, she even has a stash of vintage pink silk scarves I bought on the spot! I'm already planning how I'm going to incorporate them into my wardrobe for a proper Rome-inspired ballet outfit.
First Impressions: All About That View
Stepping out of my little haven, I was immediately struck by the magnificent architecture and the sense of history that hangs in the air. Every street corner seemed to be guarded by a crumbling Roman ruin or a grand Baroque building. Of course, I had to stop and take a few snaps in my trusty pink tutu, right? It was practically a photoshoot in the middle of the ancient Forum!
Food for the Soul
No trip to Italy would be complete without indulging in the incredible cuisine. I've already sampled a delectable assortment of pasta dishes, from classic spaghetti alla carbonara to decadent carbonara. Don't even get me started on the pizza! And the gelato? Pure bliss. I've tried pistachio, hazelnut, and even rose-flavoured - it's like a fairytale in every spoonful.
Exploring The Eternal City: Tutu-Style
Of course, my trip wouldn't be complete without some ballerina-inspired sightseeing! Yesterday, I visited the Trevi Fountain, tossing a coin over my shoulder for good luck (and maybe a pink tutu purchase in the future). And, of course, I couldn't resist performing a little impromptu ballet sequence in front of the Colosseum! It's a must for every tutu-clad ballerina.
The Pantheon: A Timeless Gem
Today, I ventured to the Pantheon. I'd seen pictures of it, but nothing could prepare me for the sheer scale of this awe-inspiring structure. The perfect circular dome and the vast open space within are a testament to the genius of Roman architecture. I spent ages gazing up at the sky through the iconic oculus in the dome, wondering about the Romans who walked those very halls centuries ago.
Pink Tutu Shopping Spree: Rome Edition
One of my favourite things to do in a new city is to go exploring for vintage fashion and unique finds. I've stumbled upon the most fabulous little shop tucked away in the charming Trastevere neighbourhood, and I snagged a magnificent vintage silk dress in the palest shade of rose. Just the perfect piece for a ballet-inspired night out on the town! I'll share some snaps on the Pink Tutu website later - stay tuned!
Ballet Performances: Rome's Theatrical Side
Later tonight, I'm attending a performance at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma - can you imagine?! A proper, grand opera house! I can't wait to be swept away by the music, the spectacle, and the breathtaking performances. It’s a dream come true to watch ballet in such an incredible setting. I'll be posting a full review and a backstage peek on my website after the performance.
