Ciao bella! This week, from the heart of Rome, I'm writing to you from a little trattoria tucked away down a charming cobbled side street, with the aroma of fresh basil and simmering pasta wafting around me. Can you believe it's already November? It feels like just yesterday I was in the sunshine of Spain, sipping sangria and swirling around in my pink tutu, but Rome has a way of wrapping you in its history and making time seem to melt away.
As you all know, Wednesday is Pink Tutu day, and I wouldn't dream of missing my weekly update. So let's dive into the magic of my Rome adventure!
From the Peaks of Derbyshire to the Eternal City:
Leaving my Derbyshire home, the familiar hills and rolling green fields of England, for the bustling beauty of Italy never gets old. Stepping off the train in Rome’s Termini station, I always feel that familiar thrill, the feeling of a fresh start, of a new chapter ready to be written. I can't deny it, the romantic charm of this city gets to me every time.
My Tutu Adventures in Rome
Now, let’s talk about this trip! Rome, oh Rome, you are an absolute dream for a pink tutu aficionado. Every cobbled street seems to be begging to be twirled upon. The colours of this city – terracotta rooftops, golden travertine, the fiery orange sunsets – they just set my inner ballerina spinning!
Today was all about a real treat: the Rome Opera Ballet's production of "Giselle". As I walked into the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, I felt like a princess stepping into a fairytale. The ornate theatre, the hushed anticipation of the audience, the incredible artistry of the ballet... it was an experience I'll cherish forever. And you know, even though there wasn't a single pink tutu on stage, that didn't stop my heart from fluttering like a hummingbird’s wings.
A Fashion Feast
What's a Pink Tutu Rome trip without a little fashion indulgence? This morning, I lost myself in the heart of Via Condotti. It was like a fashion feast, filled with iconic Italian designers and boutiques galore! I felt like I was stepping out of a Vogue magazine – seriously, the outfits in the window displays were practically begging me to be photographed! I couldn't resist a little treat – a pair of delicate gold ballerina earrings with tiny pink pearls, to add a touch of pink to my Roman style.
Where to Get Your Tutu Fix
Rome, surprisingly, is a hidden gem for ballet lovers. From grand theatres to charming studios, it offers a wide range of classes and performances.
For a dose of serious ballet, the Teatro dell'Opera is a must. And if you want a touch of traditional ballet school charm, head to The Accademia Nazionale di Danza in the elegant Flaminia district. I even heard rumours of a local street performance group that specialises in ballet – I'm on the hunt for them, and I'll definitely share the details in next week's blog!
Tips for Pink Tutu Travel:
- Pack a Pink Tutu! This one's obvious. Rome is tutu-friendly, trust me. Just keep a lightweight one for dancing in squares and gardens!
- Go for Local Flair: You’re in Italy! Treat yourself to pasta, gelato, and espresso – enjoy all the fabulous food and delicious treats. Don’t forget the Aperol Spritz for that sunset magic.
- Embrace the Train Travel: Italy has a fantastic rail network, so exploring by train adds to the charm of the trip. Just remember, bring a travel pillow – comfortable train travel is key for those who dance!
- Carry a Pocket-Sized Ballet Book: Just in case you encounter a ballet fan and you want to have a conversation about your love for ballet, especially at the Teatro dell'Opera.
Let’s spread the Pink Tutu Love
Every Wednesday, I get to share my love of ballet, my adventures in pink, and my joy for travel with all of you! If you’re looking for a unique way to express yourself, give pink a try – whether it's a pink lipstick, a pink hair clip, or, dare I say, a pink tutu? The power of pink is in spreading joy and making the world a more magical place, one twirl at a time.
And to all of my amazing readers: let me know in the comments below what YOU would like to see on the Pink Tutu blog. Where in the world should we explore next?
Until next Wednesday, remember, life is a dance, so twirl, twirl, twirl!
Lots of love,
Emma
