London Calling! (Post #1)
Hey everyone!
Well, here I am in the big smoke! Iāve been itching to get to London for ages, and it feels incredible to be here finally. Itās been a whirlwind getting here, you see, as I wanted to travel in style, which of course meant taking the train. It was an absolute joy ā chugging through the English countryside, a hot cuppa in my hand, and the scenery flashing past my window. And speaking of flashing, my brand new cyan tutu caught the eye of every fellow train passenger. Itās such a lovely, light colour and goes so beautifully with my new pink polka-dot handbag!
It was quite a sight, I'm sure ā me perched in the train seat, legs outstretched, a vibrant tutu in full bloom, a pink handbag strategically placed to create an artfully balanced silhouette. People seemed captivated by the scene ā not that Iām boasting or anything! Just saying.
Iām at my auntās beautiful little flat in Notting Hill, and already the buzz of the city has sucked me in. Itās so exciting just wandering around, watching the different people, listening to the different accents. The streets are a symphony of sounds ā the gentle chug of a bus, a buskerās tune, and the chirping of the ubiquitous pigeons.
Speaking of the chirping pigeons, I spent the afternoon in Hyde Park, surrounded by those feathery creatures and the majestic swans gliding across the Serpentine. I was mesmerized by the way they moved through the water. It was quite a beautiful ballet performance, and for a moment, I felt myself wanting to just ā¦ glide right alongside them.
One thing's for sure, this trip has me dreaming about becoming a swan for the day! And while I canāt quite pull off a graceful swan move yet (my legs would just tangle!), Iām pretty sure my moves are improving. I even managed to fit in a ballet class while Iāve been here! My teacher at the Dance Academy in Kensington was quite impressed. She said she hasn't seen such āenthusiastic extensions and pirouettesā since, well, since ever! Iām still getting used to their dance routine. They say "pas de bourrĆ©e", but "skip hop" would probably work better for my little Derby mind, haha! But she is great - very patient and encouraging!
However, I do love to experiment with my steps and routines, even at class. Sometimes, the instructor doesnāt appreciate my freestyle. Oh well! It is still ballet at its heart - beautiful and full of passion! That's why Iāve decided to call my blog, Pink-Tutu.com. I want to get everyone, everyone, wearing pink tutus, to show how absolutely lovely and stylish a ballerina outfit can be. Thereās something so powerful about wearing a tutu - the lightness, the freedom it represents! It really helps you dance and feel happy!
Of course, London is home to many a grand ballet theatre. And while my purse isnāt big enough for a night at the Royal Opera House right now, I did manage to snag tickets to a show at the Sadlerās Wells. The dance itself was stunning. They had this amazing set with these towering red pillars and ā¦ I honestly can't even tell you about the dancers! It was absolute perfection, the way their bodies moved in the air, how their expressions were just spot onā¦ You know, like you could understand them, just by the way they were looking. They moved through this beautiful sequence that looked like they were weaving between flowers. Amazing. It filled me with such inspiration - maybe one day, that'll be me!
Oh, and did I mention I found the most stunning pink vintage tutu tucked away in a little shop on Portobello Road? You guys, it was perfect. Like a fairyās dress straight out of a dream. It has tiny, delicate little pink bows around the bottom, a pale satin layer underneath, and then a soft pink mesh on top that shimmers when the light hits it. Honestly, it was love at first sight. And of course, it was exactly what my wardrobe needed! I was beaming for hours.
After that exciting purchase, I grabbed some fish and chips at a classic British chippie near my auntās flat and enjoyed a delicious supper in the park. You canāt really get a much better taste of London life than that, can you?
The real beauty of a city is, of course, that you get to discover a new nook or cranny every time. And every day feels different from the last. Yesterday it was a graceful swan show in Hyde Park. Today, itās a bustling walk down Oxford Street - it's a city that's alive, breathing, evolving! There are so many stories here, so many experiences to be had! Iāve just scratched the surface, so Iāll be back tomorrow with more London adventures. Until then, do you want to share your London memories with me? Tell me about your favourite things, your experiences, and what youād love to see. Weāre all on this pink tutu journey together!
Catch you soon,
Emma xoxo
