Leith Calling! Post 141: A Tutu-ful Day Out

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed friend from Derbyshire, ready to share another exciting adventure with you. It's November, and that can only mean one thing โ€“ autumnal colours are swirling, crisp air is invigorating my senses, and it's prime time for tutu-clad adventures!

Today, my travels led me to Leith, a charming corner of Edinburgh that feels like stepping back in time. I arrived in style, of course. I chose to ditch the stuffy, modern train for a rather grand horse-drawn carriage. The clip-clop of hooves, the gentle sway, and the feeling of the wind in my hair are unparalleled. Besides, who doesn't love a good fairytale entry?

The air in Leith was alive with the sound of seagulls, the tang of salty air, and a comforting hush. I could feel a real sense of history, which sparked a creative buzz within me. The old cobblestone streets, the traditional buildings, and the twinkling lights at sunset felt straight out of a romantic Victorian novel.

Speaking of history, my day began with a visit to the Museum of Scottish Ballet History, which had a collection of tutus and ballet costumes from all the iconic Scottish ballets! It was quite a treat seeing some original costumes from famous productions like 'La Sylphide' and 'Swan Lake'. There were even some of the tutus that belonged to Margot Fonteyn! Of course, my favourite part of the collection was the gorgeous pastel pink tutu with silver detailing from the production of 'The Sleeping Beauty'. It truly took my breath away.

Afterward, I strolled along the harbour and enjoyed the invigorating sea breeze. Leith was filled with interesting little shops and galleries, each with their own quirky charm. A particularly adorable store called "Tutus & Tails" had the most divine collection of tutus โ€“ from classic romantic tutus to contemporary abstract ones, all bursting with colour and sparkle.

Later, I ventured into the city centre to enjoy a classical ballet performance at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. The atmosphere was absolutely magical โ€“ everyone was dressed in their finery and anticipation was buzzing in the air. The show itself was a sublime performance of "Giselle". It transported me to a realm of elegant movements, flowing silks, and poignant emotions. I'm convinced everyone would feel that magic and find their inner grace by trying ballet.

You know I love the "ballet and fashion" combo! As I watched the elegant movements of the dancers, my thoughts turned to my own ballet outfit. Of course, a pink tutu was non-negotiable โ€“ but I opted for a vibrant and playful fuchsia-coloured tutu this time, just to add a touch of whimsy.

But hold your horses (pun intended, dear reader!) my dear friends โ€“ my journey through Leith wouldn't be complete without a tutu-ful surprise. In the midst of exploring a bustling craft fair, I stumbled upon a delightful little stall tucked away in a quiet corner. Imagine my joy โ€“ a little atelier full of handmade pink tutus! My eyes nearly popped out of my head. The lady there told me she creates unique tutus in a range of whimsical fabrics and textures โ€“ silks, chiffons, lace, even recycled fabrics! The beauty was irresistible! I had to snag a custom-made creation. She has an online store, so I will definitely be linking her shop on www.pink-tutu.com - be sure to check it out!

As dusk settled and the sky turned into a glorious display of crimson and gold, I knew it was time to end this extraordinary day. Sitting in a cosy coffee shop with a hot chocolate and a generous helping of freshly baked scones, I reflected on my trip. It was a beautiful journey, filled with inspiration and the realization that even in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, magic can be found in the smallest of places โ€“ a handcrafted tutu, the scent of salt in the air, the rhythm of horses' hooves against cobblestone.

As I prepare to hop on another horse-drawn carriage back to the railway station, I find myself humming a playful little tune. My heart is full, my spirits are soaring, and I can't wait to share this extraordinary experience with you.

Stay tuned for more tutuf-ul adventures, darlings! Don't forget to check www.pink-tutu.com every day for fresh posts! And remember, the world needs more pink tutus and a little more ballet magic. Don't be afraid to spread the love, darling!
