Herne Bay, Oh My! (Post #179) 🩰

Oh darling, you won't believe what happened today!

I'm currently ensconced in a charming little hotel in Herne Bay, with the salty sea air swirling around me and the sound of crashing waves lulling me into a blissful state. It's the perfect setting, you see, for my latest ballet adventure.

After a gloriously scenic train ride down from Derbyshire - my usual carriage always seems to be graced with a herd of the most elegant cows you could ever imagine! - I arrived in Kent with a spring in my step (quite literally, of course!) and a feather tutu whispering excitedly around my legs. This fabulous, fuchsia-hued creation was just the ticket for a spot of seaside striding. The sun was beaming, the sky was a cerulean dream, and the beach was a haven of peace - perfect for a photo-shoot (which I may or may not have turned into a impromptu ballet performance...).

Anyway, back to my Herne Bay escapade! It's all thanks to the brilliant "Ballet on the Coast" festival happening here. Honestly, this town is positively brimming with talented dancers and balletomanes. I spotted a darling group of ladies, their faces lit with a glow that could only be ignited by a shared passion for the art. It's contagious, you know, the feeling of being surrounded by people who truly understand and appreciate the power of ballet.

And speaking of power... I have to tell you, the performance I saw this evening was pure magic! The show was staged at a quaint theatre, charmingly called "The Pavilion". The dΓ©cor was so beautifully reminiscent of seaside charm, complete with delicate seaside paintings and a little twinkling chandelier, it made me feel like I had stepped into a classic ballet novel.

But the real highlight, darling, was the show itself! It was a modern interpretation of "Giselle" that simply blew my mind! The choreography was bold, emotional, and stunningly graceful. The dancers were incredible, each movement imbued with such passion and heart, I nearly burst into tears of joy. The story itself, about a young girl, misunderstood, yet so very strong and determined... well, it simply resonated with me to the core.

It reminded me of how I, too, had felt misunderstood when I first donned my pink tutu, when I started sharing my love for ballet with the world through this very blog! I wanted to reach out, to show the world that ballet isn't about stiff formality, it's about expressive storytelling. It's about finding joy in the graceful movement, in the captivating beauty of human connection.

As the last notes of the final dance echoed in the air, I realised, with a sudden burst of inspiration, that my quest for everyone to don a pink tutu and embrace the wonders of ballet had taken a whole new twist. It wasn't just about the tutu itself - though let's face it, a pink tutu can certainly boost confidence and joy! It's about spreading the love, about embracing vulnerability and celebrating strength, just like those talented dancers on stage tonight. It's about connecting with something deeper than ourselves, a human experience we all share, no matter who we are or where we come from.

This is what I hope my blog brings to everyone, and this is what "Ballet on the Coast" embodies so perfectly: the pure beauty and raw emotion of ballet, wrapped in a delightful seaside setting.

Before I go, I can't forget to mention the delectable, pink-hued fish and chips I had at a local restaurant last night, dipped in homemade tartar sauce. So delicious! And, as I sip my morning coffee, I find myself wishing I could bottle the sweet, salty scent of the ocean and bring it back to my cozy Derbyshire cottage. I promise to share more photos and snippets from my adventures soon, darlings.

Stay tuned, and until then, remember - wear that pink tutu with pride, and let the rhythm of life lead you to joy!

XOXO,

Emma
