Chorley Calling: Pink Tutu Travels (Post #178)

Hello my lovely tutu-lovers! Emma here, bringing you another installment of Pink-Tutu Adventures from the wonderful world of ballet. Today's journey? A delightful trip to Chorley, nestled in the heart of Lancashire, and just a short train ride away from my Derbyshire abode.

Now, before we delve into the beauty of the day, let's talk about my outfit, shall we? Pink, of course. Always pink. Today, my trusty tutu had a little extra 'oomph' – a charmingly stiff tulle that held its shape with the utmost grace, a pink dream come true! It paired perfectly with my pastel pink cashmere cardigan and those lovely ballerina flats, just whispering “elegant, yet playful” to the world.

And speaking of world whispers, the train ride was a charming experience. The rolling green countryside whizzed by as I scribbled away in my notebook, dreaming up new ballet routines for my next dance class. (Do you know, my favourite choreography this week involved an acrobatic twist around a hay bale, just imagine! ). There was a sweet family in the compartment, a father, mother, and two little girls. Their delighted chatter was infectious as they talked about the exciting visit to the pantomime at Chorley Little Theatre.

Now, the Little Theatre! This was no ordinary building! It has such an exciting history, built in 1889, with a wonderful mix of Art Deco and Victorian grandeur. As I entered, a magical pink and gold “Welcome!” seemed to shine from every corner. They say the ghost of a famous Shakespearean actor once graced these boards. Maybe he’d be pleased with today’s ballet, a stunning performance from the Lancashire Dance Theatre.

The performance was captivating, their grace and fluidity simply mesmerizing. The storyline was an inspired take on “Sleeping Beauty”, but with a vibrant twist of “Taming of the Shrew” mixed in. The choreography? Pure brilliance. And those costumes – absolutely delightful, with a playful use of textures and colour! The final tableau had a stunning finale of feathers, swirling fabric and graceful bows, leaving a sense of complete awe and inspiration. Oh, how I long to create something so grand on stage one day!

My love for ballet goes beyond the theatre though. After the show, I popped into Chorley town centre. A cute little independent boutique had “ballerina shoes” adorning their storefront! And even a cheeky little cafe had a window display featuring tiny dancers, the whole scene had my inner ballerina screaming with delight.

And what’s a trip to Lancashire without a touch of countryside charm? So, a quick horse ride through the Chorley woods was next on the agenda. This lovely neighbourhood was so beautiful, with woodland walking trails, charming rivers, and fields alive with wildflowers. A friendly little red squirrel scurried across my path, his bushy tail almost matching the vibrant colours of my tutu! And how I love to listen to the chirping of the birds – pure musical symphony!

The best part of Chorley, for me, was seeing its vibrancy, it’s “live it up” attitude. A small town, it pulsates with charm and life. You can feel it everywhere, from the quirky cafes, to the enthusiastic art shops, even the charming market stalls selling beautiful crafts. As I rode away on my trusty steed, I thought about Chorley’s amazing history, its community spirit, its love of art and entertainment. I could imagine it’s bustling streets full of tutu-wearing dancers, their graceful steps filling the air with laughter and beauty!

Now, I have an announcement! I’ve been busy thinking about my next “pink-tutu project”. What could be better than making our beautiful world even more colourful and full of love? A giant, shimmering “Pink Tutu Dance Marathon” is what we need! Imagine all the fun we can have! Every shade of pink under the sun, all of us together celebrating life, music, dance and joy!

And to all my fabulous tutu lovers out there - why not come and join me? Let’s fill Chorley – and then the entire world, with the enchanting magic of ballet. Because, believe me, the world really needs more pink! More tutus! More graceful moves, more passion, more joy! Let's turn our lives, one dance step at a time, into a colourful dream.

Until next time, happy twirling and keep dancing your way!

Your lovely ballet friend, Emma
