TutuBlog: #811 - Paris, Je t'aime! (and my new tutu, too!)
Bonjour mes amies!
Today I'm writing to you from the most fabulous city in the world – Paris! The Eiffel Tower is twinkling outside my window (seriously, you can see it from here, even though it's miles away!), and the smell of freshly baked croissants is drifting in from the patisserie downstairs. What could be more divine?
As you know, my mission in life is to spread the joy of ballet and the wonder of tutus, and there's no better place to do that than in the heart of French fashion. I've been here for a few days, exploring the Parisian ballet scene and of course, indulging in all the incredible fashion.
Yesterday was the big day – the day I got my hands on a gorgeous, brand new European-style tutu! It's a stunning pink, just like my favourite colour, with a full, airy skirt that swishes around me as I twirl. It's absolutely perfect – the very epitome of Parisian chic.
Imagine my excitement as I arrived at the quaint little boutique tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. I could practically hear the tulle whisper secrets to me. The shopkeeper was such a darling – an elegant woman with silver curls who's been a ballerina her whole life. We spent ages chatting, and she told me all sorts of stories about the famous ballerinas who had bought tutus from her shop over the years. You could almost feel the magic in the air!
After trying on several options (I mean, what's a girl to do, right? When there are so many exquisite choices!) I found the one. It was love at first twirl.
Tonight, I'm heading to the Palais Garnier to see a performance of "Giselle". Can you even imagine?! My pink tutu is ready, my heart is fluttering, and I'm prepared for a truly unforgettable experience.
Of course, my Paris adventure has been about much more than tutus and ballet (though those are certainly highlights!).
Yesterday morning, I strolled through the Jardin des Plantes, watching the playful penguins waddle around their enclosure and marveling at the majestic lioness lounging in the sun. It’s amazing how, even in the most bustling of cities, you can find peaceful pockets of nature where the world seems to stand still. And the French do know how to create a stunning outdoor space – a real feast for the eyes and senses!
To get around the city, I've opted for the romantic option – a beautiful vintage horse-drawn carriage. There's something magical about taking a leisurely ride through the cobblestone streets, listening to the clop-clop of hooves against the stones. Plus, I have to confess I do rather love a good photo op, and what better way to capture the essence of Paris than against a backdrop of beautiful horses and an Eiffel Tower that sparkles like a giant, celestial jewel.
There’s really no escaping the feeling of romance that pervades Paris – from the quaint little cafes with their red checkered tablecloths to the charming bookstore on Rue de Seine where I found a dusty, old first edition copy of “Swan Lake.”
In case you’re wondering (I know you’re all thinking it), my love for pink is definitely showing in Paris. Everything here is so delightfully whimsical and a little bit flamboyant, and my pink tutu seems to blend seamlessly into the streets. It even got a few admiring glances from some dapper Parisian gentlemen who seemed charmed by my outfit – I know it's impossible to be unfashionable when you're wearing a pink tutu, am I right?!
Of course, I can’t let this opportunity pass by without telling you about my favorite French tradition: tea time! Every afternoon, I find myself curled up in a comfy chair at a charming patisserie, sipping a cup of fragrant, French Earl Grey tea and devouring a selection of perfectly delicate macarons. They come in every imaginable colour (including, of course, pink!), and are absolutely delicious.
Oh, and have I mentioned the pastry? There are buttery croissants, sweet and flaky pain au chocolat, and the most incredible eclairs – a taste of heaven! My willpower melts away in the face of so much sugary deliciousness, but I figure I deserve a little treat when I’m exploring such a beautiful city, don’t you agree?
One of the things that makes me happiest about this trip is the feeling of being a part of a special, exclusive world – the world of ballet. Being a dancer, it's been incredibly inspiring to be amongst like-minded individuals, seeing people of all ages and backgrounds embracing the beauty and artistry of movement. I’ve even seen a few kids on their first foray into the ballet world, which warmed my heart – there's something so magical about watching young dancers, with their wide eyes and enthusiastic spirit, take their first steps into this enchanting art form.
In my opinion, there is truly no better way to learn about ballet than to witness it performed live. There is something truly magical about being in the theatre, with the orchestra warming up and the energy in the room building with anticipation, waiting for the curtain to rise. The first notes of the music and the first flutter of a ballerina’s skirt will fill you with excitement and wonder.
Oh, and did I mention that my Parisian experience includes an impromptu dance lesson in the Tuileries Gardens? Yes, you heard right. After spotting a group of children dancing joyfully beneath the shade of the trees, I simply couldn’t resist joining in.
There’s no way I’d leave this amazing city without having a few twirls in this breathtaking location! We shared smiles and giggles, learning from each other and simply relishing the joy of dancing, a language that unites us all.
And who knows, maybe I sparked a few imaginations, planting the seeds of ballet love in young hearts. I just know, for me, Paris has been a beautiful reminder that life is a stage – a chance to embrace our inner dancer, to twirl and twirl and let the rhythm of our souls lead the way.
I'll be back in London soon, and my Parisian souvenirs will stay with me, from the memories of my adventures to the elegant pink tutu I found amongst the charming shops. As always, you can follow along with all my escapades on www.pink-tutu.com!
Until next time, my darlings, remember to wear your pink tutus, dance your hearts out, and embrace the magic of life!
Emma, signing off.
