Lancaster: A Tutu-tastic Christmas

Darling readers! How is everyone? Hope you are having a fantastically festive Christmas! I'm currently sitting in my hotel room in Lancaster, snuggled up in my favourite pink dressing gown (with matching slippers, of course), watching the snow fall softly outside the window. This place is a real winter wonderland, and I can't wait to explore further!

Today's adventure has been an absolute whirlwind. This morning, I hopped onto the train from Derbyshire and spent the journey gazing out at the frosted fields and picturing all the cute little bunnies hiding amongst the snowy foliage. I can’t tell you how much I love a good train journey! Especially this time of year, there’s nothing quite like settling in with a book, a steaming cuppa and watching the world go by, a vision of festive cheer unfolding right outside my window.

Of course, it wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a touch of tutus! For this Christmas trip, I’ve chosen a divine crimson red tulle tutu with a dash of sparkling silver, just for a touch of festive sparkle! (Don’t worry, you’ll all see photos later, I took plenty!), It really pops against the snow, darling!

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of taking a carriage ride through the city! How romantic, wouldn’t you say? And wouldn't you know it, my horse (such a handsome chap!) seemed to know what I was thinking. He even did a little trot to a waltz tune playing from the nearby Christmas Market! Can you believe it? What a Christmas memory! The horse's name was even something perfectly in keeping with the festive spirit. You can guess? (Hint, it starts with ‘J’). You’re right, it was called Jolly! He definitely was a jolly fellow, though not entirely the gentlest of steeds. He seemed rather interested in my fluffy pink, snowflake patterned scarf! You’d have thought he was about to take a nibble. He didn’t! And good job he didn’t or I would have lost my favorite Christmas accessory!

The Christmas Market itself was something out of a fairytale! I felt like I'd stepped into a real-life snow globe. The stalls were decked with twinkling fairy lights and garlands, overflowing with delicious goodies and unique hand-crafted gifts. I managed to grab some lovely, fragrant candles, a knitted scarf for my little brother and a gorgeous new book about wild ponies, as we have some of those on our little Derbyshire farm! My Mum keeps telling me they aren't real wild ponies, just those ones that have been roaming free, escaping the field next door from the new farm, but I don’t believe her! My wild ponies!

I just know my little sister would be thrilled to receive them all! It's such a special time of year to be travelling and I feel incredibly blessed to be sharing it with you, my fellow tutuesque admirers! I even saw a beautiful white owl perching on a branch, overlooking the market square! My, how magical it all felt! My adventures in Lancaster are far from over, I’m planning to see a Christmas performance of the Nutcracker, the perfect Christmas ballet, and even a festive dinner later!

The Christmas spirit is certainly contagious in this beautiful town. I couldn't resist a mug of mulled wine, a classic winter tipple and some freshly baked gingerbread men! You can’t beat those festive traditions. Even my little ballerina bunny, Bon Bon, got in on the fun. I bought him a Christmas cookie so tiny I think I'll just keep it as a decoration for my little ballerina room! He definitely needed to be put on a diet - he's been getting very greedy since his autumnal acorn obsession! Oh well! The only good thing about my tutu-tastic travel adventures is all the shopping!

Of course, a visit to Lancaster isn't complete without a visit to the castle. But today it was closed for Christmas, which was a real shame because it was so very Christmassy. I did however admire it through the railings. Its mighty tower and battlements felt right at home against the dramatic snowy landscape! I just have to go back tomorrow and I'm thinking of visiting a museum on the history of the Lancaster witches! Fancy a little spooky history, don't you? They are saying this year the town will have an event called ‘Witches in Lancaster' – a full week of celebrations, performances and spooky storytelling events! What fun!

So much fun to be had, darling readers! It seems this winter wonderland holds something special for everyone! There's truly something enchanting about being in this old-world setting. I feel as if I've been transported to a scene out of one of my favourite Christmas storybooks! A special treat on my list for my Lancaster trip was to see an amazing modern ballet version of the tale, “Sleeping Beauty.” I had always known Sleeping Beauty was performed but hadn't been able to get a ticket, but I did see that it was on here, a special show just for Christmas week. I got a ticket – I nearly squealed out loud! – and couldn’t wait for tonight's performance. It was going to be an amazing, glittering, shimmering experience and of course I had to look my very best!

My plans tomorrow? Of course, I am wearing my very best tutu – you’ll all see my fabulous red dress for the ‘Sleeping Beauty' show – so I am off to find somewhere to shop in Lancaster tomorrow to make sure I have some of those fab, fluffy pashmina scarves to match my pink outfit! A little pink pashmina and my favourite blush-coloured satin flats (that match my handbag - matching is very important!). My tutu, you will be amazed when I show you all tomorrow, will be the pièce de résistance. And don't forget! It will all be pink, darling, a gorgeous bright shocking pink! I have always adored pink! And this will be no exception to my amazing love of pink! The outfit for this night of celebration will truly be sensational. I will let you all know what I have planned tomorrow in my next blog entry! And a quick heads up… The ‘Sleeping Beauty’ show had a magical Christmas twist to it and was totally brilliant, and there was even a special ballerina appearance by an adorable six-year-old at the end! What a heartwarming sight!

Well, darlings, until tomorrow then!

Sending lots of love (and hopefully some pink-tutu-inspired magic!)

Yours truly, Emma x
