Cleethorpes, My Darling! 🩰💖

Oh, my dears, today's been a right little whirl! This morning, I packed my little pink suitcase, slipped into my absolute favourite tutu – the one with the sparkling cherry blossom motif – and caught the train from Derby. The journey was as charming as always, full of friendly faces and lots of dreamy countryside whizzing past the windows. I do love a good train journey – it feels so vintage chic and lets you relax into the anticipation of adventure.

You see, my lovely darlings, I was headed to Cleethorpes – yes, Cleethorpes! Who would have thought that a seaside town with such a grand name would be on my travel itinerary? But honestly, the world of ballet is vast, and it reaches out even to the most unexpected corners of the globe – or, in this case, Britain.

And why was I so far off the beaten path? Why, a grand ballet ball, of course! Hosted by the most wonderful ballet troupe – you know, the one with the swans – yes, the Royal Ballet! You wouldn't believe the fabulous tutus I saw fluttering around! It was positively a riot of pink! I felt right at home.

But before I get carried away, I must tell you all about the journey! Imagine, rolling hills and the quaint villages of Derbyshire blurring past, sunlight casting shimmering rainbows on the carriage windows, a gentle cup of tea in my hand – ah, the simple pleasures of life! A lovely old lady in a flowery hat (with an utterly divine sense of style, by the way) told me all about her granddaughter's budding ballet career – she was in awe of the pliés! And, as luck would have it, there was a gentleman opposite me who'd actually played the clarinet for a touring opera company – we had a lovely little chat about the emotional power of music and dance, and, of course, the essential elegance of tutus.

Speaking of elegance, Cleethorpes itself was quite delightful! I arrived at the seaside promenade just as the sun was dipping behind the horizon. You can just picture it, my lovelies: the beach shimmering under the golden light, the crisp sea air blowing through my hair, the cries of seagulls… It was just heavenly!

I couldn’t resist a quick stroll along the seafront – who could, really? And there, right in front of me, was a breathtaking display of art: a stunning colony of seagulls strutting and preening in the most peculiar choreography! Nature’s little ballet company, wouldn’t you agree? It truly had a magical air about it.

Later, I found myself at the ballet ball itself. My oh my, the sheer amount of sequins and silk – you just had to be there! I swear, my darling dears, there was more tulle swirling around in that ballroom than at the entire Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. It was magical, I tell you! It was an exquisite concoction of delicate flourishes, perfectly executed jumps, and…wait for it… an entirely pink-tutu-wearing dance troupe! I couldn't have dreamt up anything more fabulous, even in my wildest imagination.

Every single soul there was radiating that quintessential ballet charm, with their light smiles and gentle movements, a joyous sense of community swirling in the air. And when the music swelled and they danced, I felt tears welling up – it was truly the most beautiful expression of love for the art that I have ever seen!

The entire evening was a testament to the beauty and power of ballet. As the evening wound down, I felt as though I was walking on clouds. And when the last waltz ended, I knew I had to find a way to share this experience with you all.

The night is far from over, darlings! My head is full of ideas, swirling with excitement, ready to capture this unforgettable experience for you on the blog. So, hold onto your hats, darlings! The fun isn’t over yet!

I leave you with this: It’s not enough to simply admire ballet. It’s not enough to simply applaud it. We must all embrace the beauty and joy it offers and… wear the tutu! Yes, my darlings! Let's break the shackles of convention, celebrate life in all its vibrant shades of pink, and… let’s all go dancing!

Until tomorrow,

Emma
