TutuBlog #995: Guten Tag, Germany! ๐ฉ๐ช
Darling darlings,
It's me, your favourite pink tutu enthusiast, Emma! I'm currently writing from a charming little hotel in the heart of Germany - oh my goodness, everything is so cute! ๐
So, let me fill you in on my latest adventure. After months of planning and plotting, I've finally landed in the birthplace of the Walpurgisnacht - yes, Germany! Now, I know what you're thinking, Emma, what on earth are you doing in Germany? Surely you should be somewhere swish like Paris or London - and you're right, they are incredible, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to explore a place steeped in history, culture, and of course, some fantastic ballet opportunities.
But before we get into all that, can I just gush about this dreamy journey here? It all began in lovely old Derby, the little corner of England that I call home. A hearty English breakfast at my mum's, a quick catch-up with my dear Gran, and then, I bid farewell to my Derbyshire life, all with a bright pink polka-dot suitcase by my side. You wouldn't believe the envious stares I got at the station - "A little bit of London in the provinces", as one gentleman put it! ๐คฃ
After an overnight train journey - first class, naturally - which, for some strange reason, I seem to find utterly romantic (a little bit of Sleeping Beauty meets Murder on the Orient Express don't you think?), I awoke in Cologne. Oh my, what a view! Imagine towering Gothic architecture, vibrant cobbled streets, and the faint smell of freshly brewed coffee... absolute bliss!
And let me tell you, Iโve already discovered something spectacular. While strolling around the Altstadt (the Old Town), I stumbled across a delightful little shop, The Pink Ballerina. Honestly, you should have seen my reaction - I think I gasped! It's a veritable treasure trove of tutus - imagine silks, tulle, feathers, you name it! I had to buy a little souvenir to commemorate this special moment - a tiny pink tutu charm for my bracelet - so chic! I can't wait to add it to my collection.
Now, my mission in Germany? Why, to experience German ballet, of course! As you all know, I'm an absolute nut for anything to do with the dance, but German ballet has a truly unique character, one that's quite different from the English school. You know me, I love a challenge, and exploring the subtleties of different dance styles is like finding a whole new world to immerse myself in. Plus, a lot of my favourite classical ballet composers are German - Wagner, Strauss, Brahms - oh the magic!
Today, I spent a magical afternoon at the famous Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Let me tell you, it was an absolutely phenomenal experience! I've never seen anything like it in my life. I actually got to see the original Swan Lake performed there and the sets, the costumes, and the sheer beauty of the dancing - simply jaw-dropping! Oh, the elegance! The strength! The artistry! I practically shed a tear watching the corps de ballet as the white swans glided across the stage, such purity of movement. My darling darlings, this experience really topped the "ballet" bucket list - honestly, it was like magic.
And here's something exciting: my quest to experience German ballet will continue tomorrow at a studio nestled right in the heart of a sleepy little village in the Bavarian countryside. Apparently, their motto is "every tutu tells a story", and let me tell you, I am utterly ready for their story to unfold. I just have a feeling I'll be mesmerised - and might just learn a little bit about my own love for the dance in the process.
After this trip, you just know Iโll be stocking up on pink tutus inspired by the Bavarian countryside and all the amazing ballet studios and productions. And maybe, just maybe, youโll even catch me attempting some Bavarian ballet steps! ๐คฃ
Don't forget to stay tuned darlings, because you know what they sayโฆ "A tutu a day keeps the bad vibes away!"
Catch you all soon!
Lots of love, Emma ๐
