Nottingham, Oh Nottingham! (Post #1553)

Hello lovelies!

It’s Emma here, reporting live from the charming city of Nottingham, and I’m already smitten. There’s just something about this place, a sense of history, a playful energy, and the kind of old-world charm that makes me want to twirl around in my pink tutu and sing a little ballet melody (although I might get some funny looks).

Today’s adventure was a whirlwind of discovery, all fueled by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread and the cheerful chatter of people going about their day. As a seasoned train traveler, I’m practically a pro at navigating stations, but there’s just something special about the Nottingham railway station. Maybe it's the vibrant mural on the wall, maybe it’s the quirky vintage shops I saw on the way, or perhaps it's the delicious scent of fish and chips I could practically smell even before stepping onto the platform. Who knows, but the station, as well as the city itself, have stolen a piece of my heart already!

My morning began in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, waking to the gentle chirping of birds and the fragrant aroma of lavender. A little bit of breakfast – my homemade pink granola with berries and almond milk – and I was on my way to catch the train. Now, don't get me wrong, I adore car journeys too, especially in the Derbyshire peaks, but there’s something so magical about a train journey, especially if it involves spotting a fluffy white horse grazing peacefully beside the track, like I did this morning!

Reaching Nottingham was like stepping into a picture book, with cobblestone streets, half-timbered buildings, and hidden little alleyways that whispered secrets of centuries past. After quickly finding the perfect picnic spot – nestled between some blooming cherry trees by the River Trent, of course – I sat and indulged in a delicious picnic, savouring my brie, grapes, and fresh crusty bread.

Next on my agenda, a visit to Nottingham Castle. I am such a sucker for historical sights! There's nothing like walking around in a place where so many stories have unfolded, imagining the lives of the people who have walked those same paths before. I spent a good hour in the castle grounds, and as always, my camera was my faithful companion, capturing each charming vignette, each hidden detail, and even the most fleeting smiles of passers-by.

My trip to Nottingham wouldn't be complete without a little ballet inspiration! It wasn’t a classical ballet performance this time. I'm a big fan of modern forms of dance and Nottingham's ‘The Malt Cross’, this truly enchanting old pub – complete with stained glass windows, carved wooden beams and, yes, a charming medieval interior - had an evening ballet performance featuring, ballet, street, contemporary, and even hip hop - a truly eclectic mix that kept me entertained all night.

Did I tell you that I've been experimenting with pink tutus? My new discovery: the 'Pink Tutu of Hope' (because what's pink without a touch of hope!). It’s made from a delicate cotton tulle, the kind that whispers and shimmers when you spin. My latest pink tutu collection has some absolute beauties, I’m telling you! And the best part is? I can get away with wearing one practically everywhere! This tutu, in fact, had me dancing the night away at ‘The Malt Cross' , and as you can see from the photos – and you’re going to want to see these – it definitely made a statement.

Nottingham's charm, history, and spirit filled my heart with so much joy today, a perfect blend of elegance and a touch of mischief – just like a pink tutu, or as I like to say - a ‘Pink Tutu of Hope'. Now, I’m dreaming of another city adventure, where pink tutus and whimsical stories abound, and I just know that my journey has only just begun!

Stay tuned for more stories from your favourite pink-tutu-wearing traveller,

XOXO Emma
