Croydon Calling!

Pink Tutu Blog Post #1572

Hey there, tutu-lovers! It’s Emma here, fresh off the train from a little jaunt down south to Croydon. Yep, you read that right! I know what you're thinking: “Croydon? Isn’t that a bit
grey? And industrial?” But you know what? It's full of surprises!

Firstly, I travelled by train. Oh, the joy! I love train journeys – especially in the morning when everyone’s got their heads down, busy with their work and their lives, oblivious to the wonders that surround them. I have my little routine; a book, a pink latte (obvs!), a little pink ribbon in my hair
that perfect kind of morning that makes me feel like a little pink fairy flitting through the world. I could write an ode to train journeys, they're like mobile havens of calm. I get so much inspiration on them!

Secondly, Croydon’s full of amazing pink-tutu potential! It’s a town of vibrant energy, full of people from all walks of life. I felt that energy in my toes, swirling with excitement! Just imagine – all those people dressed in their finest tutus
A whirlwind of pink! Can you even imagine how fabulous Croydon would be? cue dreams of glitter cannons and pink fairy dust.

A Little Whirl Through the Town

I went on a mission for my favourite kind of street ballet! It's a little secret I’ve been keeping – the secret is, it’s everywhere! It’s about finding the ballet in the everyday; the little twirls you do to catch the bus, the grand jetĂ© when you rush across the road, the elegant arabesque as you walk into a coffee shop. It's all there for you to discover if you’ve got eyes to see and the courage to go for it.

The day started with a visit to Croydon's magnificent central library, its majestic exterior full of history. You know I love anything with a hint of vintage charm, so imagine my joy at discovering that Croydon boasts a Grade II-listed Victorian public library. I couldn’t resist a little pirouette in front of its elegant facade. The library's grand arches and lofty ceilings – like the grand stage of an opera house – begged to be danced upon!

I even found a little pocket park nestled amidst the hustle and bustle, a haven of calm with chirping birds and squirrels darting through the trees. This reminded me of the countryside back in Derbyshire! You’d never believe the wild life that I encounter - we’ve got everything from owls to badgers – my granddad tells me he’s even seen a fox sunbathing in the field near our house! You can't deny that little bit of wildness really brings you closer to nature - that’s why I always take a moment to notice the animals, trees and flowers – they bring joy to any dance.

My Favourite Part of the Day – Dance Therapy!

The real highlight was, of course, finding a ballet studio! They were holding a beginner's class, and my inner dancer, in all her pink-tutu glory, just couldn't resist! Even though I’m a bit of a pro myself, sometimes there’s nothing quite like getting back to basics with a great teacher and some eager newbies. We laughed, we stretched, we fell down, and we got back up with grins on our faces, completely embraced by the sheer joy of movement. Those newbie-to-ballet jitters? They were gone after ten minutes!

If I could give you one piece of advice today, it’s this: if you’ve never tried ballet, do! And wear your tutus! There's something utterly magical about being dressed in a pink tutu – it makes you feel brave, fearless, beautiful, powerful – like you can twirl the world around you. Even if you’ve got two left feet and more stumbles than a bumblebee, who cares?! Have fun! Get creative with it! It’s about the feeling, not the perfection.

A Ballet Show in Croydon!

This wasn't my first rodeo. Oh no, I’ve seen my fair share of ballet shows all across the UK! In fact, you'll probably be happy to know I'm heading to the ballet right now as we speak! I couldn't miss the show at The Ashcroft Theatre in Croydon tonight. Even a little town like Croydon knows how to put on a good show! They always have amazing classical pieces, with stunning costumes, sets, and lighting, and of course, the most amazing ballerinas who have their tutus swirling around them in breathtaking spins and leaps! Just the thought of all that grace, fluidity and expression fills me with such anticipation
I feel like I’m in one of my favourite ballet books, swirling across the pages in my mind!
