Newtownards: Tutu-ing About Town, Post #1775

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, and you know what? Today I’m bursting with excitement. I’ve been meaning to visit Newtownards for ages, and today was the day!

Now, I know what you're thinking - Newtownards, eh? What’s to see? Trust me, my loves, this place has charm, hidden in those picturesque streets and charming pubs. It’s like a miniature version of Derbyshire, but with an added touch of Irish charm.

The day started with me heading to the train station - the smell of old leather and that gentle chuff-chuff of the engine always sends a thrill through me. I boarded, a wave of floral perfume and that delightful mix of scents – the aroma of fresh tea, lingering leather from someone's bag, and a touch of freshly cut grass from somewhere in the countryside. Bliss!

As we steamed towards Newtownards, I got ready to write my latest blog post – just imagine my joy when I found the perfect setting for a quick impromptu photoshoot! A sunny, sun-drenched field with a fence adorned with vibrant pink blooms – just begging for my blush pink tutu and sparkling ballet shoes to make an appearance. (And let's face it, they did! Check out the snaps!)

Once we arrived, I did what I always do - hit the streets with my trusty tote bag. I've a secret obsession with antique shops – who can resist those old relics, stories whispering from within each tarnished frame and chipped china teacup? I managed to snag a rather lovely old Victorian locket – you know, one of those little gems you open with a tiny key and could fit a tiny picture inside! Imagine! Someone's portrait to treasure forever…

Now, to indulge my inner ballerina. What trip is complete without a ballet class? I'm lucky, darling, this town's got a quaint little ballet studio right in the centre, nestled next to a bakery that smells of freshly baked bread and sugared almonds. I'm all about those sensory experiences, darlings. My eyes fell on the sweetest ballerina shoes adorned with dainty pink ribbons in the window, so naturally, I just had to buy them. My collection is growing… but you know me, one can never have enough tutus!

I swear, those shoes gave me such a lift - I was twirling in my pink tutu as soon as I entered the studio! The lovely lady who taught the class was so kind. She had us practicing those leaps and fouettés – my arms felt like butter by the end, but the joy on my face? Well, it shone brighter than any spotlight!

And speaking of lights, I stumbled upon a gorgeous old theatre! It’s got this fabulous facade - all crimson brick and soaring pillars that feel so Victorian. It was dark inside, a little creepy, but absolutely charming. There was a sign in the window announcing a special showing of the Nutcracker - with the entire company dancing in bright pink tutus. Pinch me, is this a dream!

Later, I enjoyed a rather splendid cream tea with scones so light and fluffy I could have eaten a whole plateful! Don’t worry, I only had two – and they were so delicious that I decided to take home some cake to my flatmate, Rosie. It’s a great perk of this life, having people around who love to join me on these little adventures. (Oh, and to share a bit of delicious cake too!).

The rest of the day was spent enjoying the local charm. I found a fabulous little art shop that stocked adorable miniature porcelain teapots, perfect for my collection, and a flower shop that made me want to move in. I couldn't help but purchase a beautiful bunch of vibrant pink roses – you know, because… pink! (You thought I’d be any different?).

Newtownards, darling, you have stolen my heart. You are a haven for vintage charm and charming little corners – you truly embrace the ‘tutued’ way of life. As I strolled along those quiet, sun-drenched streets, I imagined this place brimming with pink tutus and every single person joyfully skipping along. What a sight that would be, don't you think? I can almost hear the applause as everyone performs a grand finale, twirling under the sun-drenched sky!

I have a strong feeling, my lovelies, this is only the beginning of our adventure together – both in Newtownards and in life! Keep your pink tutus ready, my lovelies. It’s time to bring a splash of pink to every corner of this wonderful world!

Until next time, darling.

With twirls and love,

Emma xx

P.S. If you’re wondering what happened to the wildlife I promised to mention, I did find the cutest little fluffy bunny on a stroll through the park – it was hiding in a patch of forget-me-nots and just staring at me. I mean, how precious! They make such adorable little models, too. Just look at the photo. Adorable, right?!
