Aylesbury Adventures: Tutu Time in the Buckinghamshire Hills

Post Number: 1876

Hello, my lovely tutu-loving readers! Today, I’m back with another installment of Emma’s pink-tastic adventures! I've just hopped off the train in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and the day is already buzzing with excitement! This picturesque town is just waiting to be explored, and I'm all ready for a weekend of ballet, pink hues, and all things delightful.

Now, I’m sure you’ve guessed what I’m wearing! It’s the ultimate statement piece: a breathtaking, custom-designed tutu, crafted by a talented artisan in London, just for me. This beauty is a riot of color, with a base of pale pink satin, topped with shimmering layers of tulle, a smattering of shimmering gold sequins and – wouldn’t you know it – a beautiful little silver fox fur trim around the waist! I think the designer went wild with inspiration, but that’s what I love about him; he takes my pink-loving dreams and turns them into real, fabulous, life-affirming masterpieces!

I chose this particular tutu because it has an element of that timeless European flair. As you know, I adore those old French films, especially ones that capture the sheer joy and elegant, almost ethereal, grace of classic ballet. This tutu brings me right back to those silver screen visions, so I’ll be twirling my way through the streets of Aylesbury with a smile as wide as my dance moves!

Ballet Heaven in the Chiltern Hills

Today’s ballet haven is the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. Now, I love a good historical theater with plush red seats, but there’s something wonderfully exciting about these modern buildings, you know? It’s like an explosion of creativity – a fresh and energetic start to any performance! The moment I saw the show’s programme, my heart skipped a beat! It was the perfect ballet-filled weekend – we've got a production of "The Sleeping Beauty" featuring dancers from the National Ballet. That’s right – top tier ballet talent, just for us!

You can imagine my excitement as we settled into our seats. The theater’s so lovely, all big, bold shapes, open spaces and light, flooding in from those gorgeous windows that surround the venue. The atmosphere here was magical - full of energy and anticipation, with everyone buzzing about tonight's show!

The music began and my whole body buzzed, not just with the music but with a joyous energy, like everyone was connecting with each other in this huge space through music and shared experience! As the curtain rose and the ballet commenced, I was totally immersed. I swear, those ballerinas must be made of stardust – they danced like pure magic, each movement, each expression so emotive, so breathtaking. My imagination soared!

I almost didn't want the evening to end, but after a stunning standing ovation, the curtain fell. Of course, there was a gorgeous after party in the theatre foyer, and I’ve just had to have a slice of pink and silver iced cake (don't judge – this is Aylesbury! This town was MADE for dessert and celebrations!) while watching the gorgeous ballet dancers chat amongst themselves, still in their fabulous costumes. The costumes were stunning; all that exquisite detail – glittering lace and luxurious silk… The whole experience was just wonderful! So now I’m here, still floating from the beauty and emotion of the performance, ready for tomorrow’s ballet classes!

My Aylesbury Itinerary: Dance, Dreams and Pinkness!

I'm all about making the most of every trip! The great thing about Aylesbury is that it has that real British village charm – friendly locals, cobbled streets and independent boutiques all clustered around a lovely market square, with that old world vibe but also, modern independent coffee shops, and a very trendy independent scene that is buzzing, with an ever expanding artistic and independent crowd that really embrace alternative fashion and are full of passion for new ideas, art and independent business.

I’ve got my plan already sorted. This is what the rest of my Aylesbury adventures look like, packed full of pink, dance, and delight:

Saturday: * MORNING: Breakfast in my best floral print dress and a classic ballet bun at the local bakery, The French Horn. They’ve got a divine strawberry and elderflower brioche which is perfect for my pink loving tastes! A glass of chilled juice from the farmer’s market is definitely on the agenda! I also love to hunt for unique vintage clothing in the local charity shops so that's next! A tutu can be dressed up and dressed down and Aylesbury's independent fashion scene gives me so many fabulous outfits to dream about and maybe even bring back to Derbyshire! * **AFTERNOON: A spot of horseback riding in the countryside! I found a great stables in just outside of Aylesbury that caters to even the most seasoned horse lover. What could be more divine than riding across the fields with my long pink skirt blowing in the breeze! This is an opportunity for an amazing sunset picture which you know I have to post on my blog later! * EVENING: Dress up and head out for a scrumptious evening meal with friends and some very indulgent champagne in the heart of the town at a restaurant called The French Pantry. This sounds like a lovely spot - beautifully dressed tables, vintage crockery and some very decadent sounding food and drink options! Perfect for an early evening and some chic chat about my day. Then, I'm headed for some amazing salsa dancing at the Cuban Lounge, which I hear has amazing food and fantastic Latin dancing vibes until the early hours – I am SO ready!

Sunday:

  • MORNING: Time for ballet classes! The dance studio looks gorgeous – high ceilings, fantastic views and walls of floor to ceiling windows, which is ideal for letting the light in – I adore those big windows! I'll be spending the morning immersed in movement, perfecting my arabesques and finding new, elegant expressions of grace.
  • *AFTERNOON: Now this is the perfect time for exploring the beauty of the Buckinghamshire countryside! I found this perfect little tea shop that looks as charming as it is tasty - "The Secret Garden Tearoom" (and who am I to question its magical nature?!), with their divine sounding home baked afternoon teas, all with fresh scones and delicate sandwiches! Oh my, and then there's their infamous strawberry and clotted cream scones... They sound heavenly! I must go for the tea, just to report back to you later about how lovely they are. Of course, there’s a reason why the name's “Secret Garden Tearoom” - it's hidden behind an unassuming building and looks utterly magical. This is a must see if you’re in the area! It’s truly beautiful – all secret paths, rose bushes and those gorgeous little ivy-clad nooks I love! *
  • EVENING: I will be saying my farewells to Aylesbury but not without an evening filled with laughter and good company! The restaurant, “The Plough” is famed for its atmosphere and incredible home cooked meals. We’ll be making the most of the long evenings and good conversation - no good ballet trip can be completed without a little lighthearted chat about dance and fashion and plans for next week!

As always, you're the first to know about all my exciting adventures, and my aim, as always, is to encourage everyone to dance! After all, it's good for the body, good for the soul, and a whole lot of fun!

Until next time, remember to twirl, embrace pink, and chase those dreams, my dear tutu lovers!

Lots of pink love,

Emma
