Saint Albans - Where Ballerinas Go to Bloom! 💖🩰

Hey lovely readers! Emma here, bringing you my 1878th post from the utterly delightful town of Saint Albans. It’s always a treat to get out of the Derbyshire hills and head towards London for a spot of ballet culture – and today’s adventures were especially delightful.

Now, I know I always bang on about how much I love tutus – and who can blame me? They are the most magical garments! But today was all about taking things up a notch with a new acquisition - a divine pink Italian tutu, complete with layers of tulle and delicate sequins. Oh, it is a masterpiece! I could barely contain myself as I unpacked it at my darling friend Mary’s cottage, just outside the town. It’s tucked away in a secret little village, surrounded by fields full of fluffy sheep and lazy cows. So peaceful!

Mary is an old friend from the Royal Ballet School, a proper dancing queen, and we always have a right good gossip and a little rehearsal. Her little cottage, adorned with fairy lights and fresh flowers, feels just like stepping into a storybook. But back to the tutu!

It’s the perfect colour – a soft blush that matches my rosy cheeks after a good ballet class, and I just couldn’t resist a little twirl. It feels light as a feather, the sequins sparkle with every step, and it made me feel like a ballerina out of a dream. We both agreed: Saint Albans was the perfect place to debut this glorious tutu!

The Saint Albans Town Hall has always been a favourite of mine for ballet – the history feels so tangible, it really sets the mood for a proper performance. And speaking of mood, I was delighted to see that this week’s performance was by none other than the “Danza Italia” company! It was like the universe had conspired to create the perfect day for my pink Italian tutu debut.

The Show Must Go On!

The Italian troupe was phenomenal – they were absolutely buzzing with energy and artistry. Every pirouette was a blur of beauty, each leap felt effortless, and the whole show just danced with passion! The costumes were exquisite – all vibrant colours and bold textures – I was simply mesmerized! Mary, who is as passionate about ballet as I am, was enthralled by the show, too. We practically did a ballet in our seats, laughing and cheering, we were like two kids at a fair.

But it wasn’t just the performers that made the show special. It was the whole experience. Sitting there in the atmospheric town hall, feeling the excitement and the passion of everyone around, I really felt connected to the joy of ballet. And let’s not forget my trusty sidekick - my Italian tutu, the ultimate pink power move, twirling and shining with every move, she added extra glitter to the whole performance. I wouldn't have it any other way!

Dinner, Delight, and Ballet Talk

After the performance, Mary whisked me off to the little French bistro "La Belle Epoque” tucked away down a cobbled lane, a real hidden gem. It was an evening full of wine, charcuterie and, of course, endless chat about ballet. We discussed the show, the history of Saint Albans Town Hall, even what colour tutus would suit different members of the cast! It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

More Than Just a Tutu:

You see, for me, wearing a tutu isn’t just about the fashion; it’s about expressing myself, feeling empowered and a sense of being connected to the world of dance. I believe that everyone should embrace the joy of a good twirl – the more, the merrier, I say!

As the evening settled, we walked back to Mary’s cottage. The night air was sweet with the scent of jasmine and lavender, and the moon bathed the countryside in its silvery glow. It was one of those magical moments when time seemed to stop. We stood by the cottage gate, and Mary took out her vintage camera, ready for a photo-op. My Italian tutu, caught the moonlight in the perfect way.
