Boston Ballet Bound: Tutu Time in the States (Post #1905)

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad blogger, fresh from a whirlwind adventure in Boston. This was post #1905 for your favourite pink aficionado, so you know this is going to be a good one!

I'm not going to lie, travelling by plane does not a ballet girl make. It's all very well gliding through the air, but when the flight is delayed by a swarm of hornets – well, that's a tutu-wearing nightmare! However, my trip to the East Coast was so worth it – even the slightly harrowing journey, with its unexpected buzzing interruptions!

This time, the ballet gods (or perhaps a very clever airline rep) worked in my favour – I got a front row seat, right in the centre of the train carriage, just me and a rather handsome young chap from Connecticut. He thought I looked fabulous in my full-length pink tutu, naturally, but that's what I always aim for! Who knew that my penchant for fabulous frocks could get me a charming companion for a journey of such epic proportions? He even swore to me he'd take up ballet after hearing all about my passion! Fingers crossed!

First Impressions of the Boston Ballet

Now, the reason I’d even embarked on this crazy train journey – I was here for the Boston Ballet, darlings! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! This was not your usual “Swan Lake” experience (although there's nothing wrong with Swan Lake, let’s be clear). No, this was something altogether more thrilling – the world premiere of "Cinderalla: The Rock Opera", based on Prokofiev's classical work. And this show was a true masterclass in modern interpretations, complete with electric guitars and shimmering spotlights! It truly brought the fairy tale to life, and I could barely keep from applauding right in the middle of the performance. (Maybe it was the gorgeous sparkly costume they had the Cinderella dancer in!)

I don’t know what it is about those big American cities, but everything just seems a little bit more… well… glamorous! Every other woman I saw in the audience was decked out in fabulous, figure-hugging cocktail dresses, and most of the men were wearing smart suits, with ties to match the fabrics in the women's outfits – such coordination! This certainly isn’t the dress code of the Derbyshire village hall, I can tell you! I stood out like a beacon of pink perfection, a walking ode to the whimsical and wonderful world of ballet!

After the show, I was lucky enough to catch up with a wonderful group of ballet enthusiasts – fellow tutu lovers – for drinks in the very chic "Solstice Restaurant" on the waterfront. This restaurant is perched right above the Boston Harbour with an awe-inspiring view. Imagine, being surrounded by towering sailboats and sparkling water – truly a dream come true for this ballerina girl. We talked ballet, tutus, life and everything in between. Such lovely conversations! I feel incredibly grateful to be a part of this truly special community of passionate individuals who adore dance and fabulous attire!

Taking Boston by Ballet-Inspired Storm!

I am a huge proponent of combining my love for travel with ballet whenever possible. After all, every adventure is an opportunity to discover something new. I managed to squeeze in a little bit of both by checking out the legendary Boston Common! What an amazing place – full of trees, wide open space and families picnicking and enjoying the sunshine! So I, naturally, had to whip out my tutu for a little photo shoot. You might be saying, "Emma, did you really wear your tutu to the Common?" Well, I believe every city in the world has room for a ballerina, right? I took the opportunity to photograph myself on the edge of a giant duck pond (ducks, like all wild animals, just love a good twirl!) The Boston Ballet crew are not used to such a glamorous sight, they all gasped and giggled as I whipped up a miniature dance performance right there on the grass!

And to my absolute delight, some little girls were just enthralled by my tutu and asked for me to give them a lesson! Let me tell you, a little mini ballerina masterclass with these darling young girls in a public park is one of the most delightful experiences of my entire trip! Just imagine, my efforts to promote tutu-wearing could one day see every park in the world become a haven for a twirling ballet dancer. My work is never finished, my darlings.

The City, the Sea, and the Ballet… What More Could a Girl Want?

In my quest for ballet bliss, I even stumbled upon the most fabulous local ballet boutique in the Back Bay! This place was a paradise of tutus, leotards and pointe shoes - every ballerinas's dream! I might have snagged a few too many items, but that is absolutely beside the point. You know I am always ready for the next ballet performance or class!

Boston itself was truly an inspiration, but what impressed me most about this incredible city is the sheer abundance of its history, both within and outside of its museums. I simply had to take a look at the beautiful Fenway Park, where the legendary Red Sox Baseball team call home. This is a very iconic venue, my darlings. Did I get to see the baseball team play? I certainly did. Even I have a softer spot for a bit of classic Americana when it’s right under my pink-tuted nose. Although I can’t imagine doing a “grand jeté” on a baseball field (it’d just be dangerous!), the city just radiates an atmosphere of history, sportsmanship and a love for fun, making it the perfect backdrop for my own, rather unconventional, ballet odyssey!

As my adventures in the American city came to an end, my time spent with these amazing people will stay with me forever! This was more than just a trip, my darlings. It was an experience! And that experience has cemented one thing in my heart: I absolutely need to return for a full-on "pink-tutu extravaganza." The sights, the sounds and the excitement of this American City have truly taken hold of my soul, and that means it's time to add "Boston" to my list of essential, tutu-clad travels!

Until next time, darlings, keep dancing and remember, you’re never fully dressed without a tutu!

Love,

Emma
