Rainham Rambles: Post #2010

"Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-loving ballerina, Emma, back with another adventure! Today, I'm writing to you from the charming town of Rainham in Kent.

Remember when I said I was off on a mystery trip? Well, let me tell you, it was quite the whirlwind journey! I woke up early this morning in my darling little Derbyshire cottage, ate a hearty breakfast of strawberries and cream (you know me, always a touch of pink!), and set off on my adventure. I couldn't help but feel like Cinderella going to the ball, but instead of a glass carriage, I had a glorious steed of a train. I love train journeys. You get to look at all the gorgeous countryside and it feels so romantic! I spent the entire journey thinking about the delicious adventures that lay ahead, picturing myself swirling through a magnificent ballet theatre in a stunning tutu.

And speaking of tutus… oh darling, let me tell you about my latest find! You see, I love travelling light and tend to just pack my essentials – namely, a gorgeous pink tutu and enough pairs of pointe shoes for a week. (Yes, I’m serious! Never leave home without them. You never know when inspiration will strike and you'll need to whip out a spontaneous performance. Ballet doesn't take a holiday, my dears!) Anyway, when I got to Rainham, I stumbled across a tiny little boutique filled with all kinds of quirky clothes, and to my utter delight, I found a tutu that is just divine. It's the most delicate, soft pink tulle, trimmed with beautiful dark brown lace, and has the most delightful tiny floral print. It reminded me of a little woodland fairy!

Of course, I had to buy it. Because what is a ballet girl without a tutu? Absolutely nothing, darling! Absolutely nothing!

*Anyway, where was I? Ah, yes, Rainham. *

This sweet town has captured my heart with its charming cobbled streets, traditional little pubs, and its friendly, welcoming locals. I swear, I’ve had at least ten different people stop me today to ask if I’m a dancer. It turns out they love the tutu! Perhaps I’ve inspired them all to start taking lessons? I’ve even had some rather dashing gents offer to buy me drinks… But of course, I politely declined – no distractions for this dedicated ballerina!

However, my adventures in Rainham are far from over. After a delicious afternoon tea (more strawberries, obviously!), I headed for the town's grand library where I learned all about its fascinating history, and got completely lost in a book about the Victorian ballet era. There's so much beauty in history, darling, and so much inspiration to be drawn from it. It makes me appreciate our modern ballet world even more.

And after that, oh, it was off to a beautiful park – such a perfect place for ballet, don't you think? So, naturally, I donned my beautiful new tutu and twirled my way across the lawn, feeling completely free and happy. There were families with children, couples strolling, even a lone man reading a newspaper! He actually stopped for a moment and applauded, so that made my day. He reminded me of a character in one of my favourite ballet books – a gentleman who loves art but struggles to understand it.

He definitely appreciated the beauty of ballet, even if he just understood the physical art, not the artistry.

It was a perfect end to my Rainham adventures. You see, the great thing about ballet is that it can be enjoyed by everyone. From the grand stages to the serene green fields, it is a language that unites us all.

So, dear readers, wherever you are in the world, I encourage you to try ballet. Don't let your dreams gather dust! Grab that tutu, grab your friends, grab that book, grab some shoes... and find your happy place.

P.S. I have been giving a lot of thought to opening my very own ballet school, right here in my Derbyshire cottage. The world needs more tutu-wearing, happy, graceful people. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

XOXO, Emma
