Letchworth, darling! (Post #2011)

Oh my goodness, you won't believe what an utterly divine day I've had in Letchworth! I must admit, I'm completely smitten with this little town, and let me tell you, I've had more than my fair share of smitten moments in my life, so that's saying something. πŸ˜‰

Firstly, the journey! I decided to ditch the boring old car and take the train, just to soak up the gorgeous countryside scenery, and it did not disappoint! So many fields, so many fluffy clouds, so many charming little villages, I could practically hear a soundtrack of Vivaldi and twirling ballerinas. Plus, there's something truly magical about looking out the window as the world zips by - it's like stepping into a film.

But enough about trains, because this is all about Letchworth, my dears. 🩰

Upon arriving, the first thing that struck me was the delightful, old-fashioned charm of the place. I just had to wear my gorgeous pink tutu for this outing, you know, for the extra oomph. It felt completely appropriate amidst the charming cobbled streets, quaint little cafes and historical architecture. I felt like a ballet dancer right out of a Victorian fairytale!

First up was the Letchworth Garden City Museum. Now, you'd think, a museum about gardening, yawn, right? But WRONG! This was so much more than just a collection of trowels and pruning shears! It delved deep into the history of Letchworth's origins and its beautiful garden city movement. Turns out, they've got all sorts of adorable vintage posters and pictures, even a beautiful art nouveau sculpture of a dancer - pure bliss! It just felt like the kind of place you could spend an entire day, immersing yourself in the past, breathing in the charm and beauty, and just being.

After the museum, I couldn't resist popping into The Old House - the sweetest little tearoom imaginable, with chintz armchairs and delectable homemade cakes. Oh, they also served the most delicious, aromatic tea in vintage teacups. Talk about a dreamy afternoon treat! It was like stepping into my own personal Jane Austen novel.

Then, feeling quite energized, I made my way to the lovely little park, Letchworth's answer to Central Park, with its graceful willow trees, tinkling fountains, and an expansive grassy area perfect for a bit of ballet practice. So I just had to put my new Italian leotard to the test, you know, make the most of the gorgeous sunshine and the wonderful setting! Imagine a graceful, pink tutu-clad ballerina twirling amidst the swaying willows, bathed in golden light, oh, it was pure perfection!

Don't worry, I was very mindful of not ruining the flowerbeds. And if you saw me twirling with my tutu held high, you were more than welcome to join in! Because honestly, life is way too short not to twirl in a pink tutu. And maybe even give ballet a go. You just never know what you might discover about yourself!

And you know what? It was utterly delightful to see all the different families and couples and friends enjoying the sunshine, picnicking, throwing frisbees, walking their dogs. Just this wonderful buzz of life. It truly made me feel alive.

The highlight of the day though? Without a doubt, Letchworth's very own Norton Theatre! Talk about a place dripping in charm, my dears. From its exquisite Victorian architecture to its welcoming atmosphere, it was a true treat for the eyes and soul. They have an incredible program of plays and musical performances - and the best part is, the actors, singers and dancers use the theatre for their rehearsals! Talk about magic! I've booked a ticket for their upcoming performance of "The Importance of Being Earnest" - oh, can't wait to get all dressed up and see it! You'd think after living in Derbyshire all my life, a theatre would be nothing special, but this is different. This feels special... And that's saying a lot!

So there you have it! Let me know if you’re planning a trip to Letchworth, I’m definitely going to have to make it a regular trip from now on, darling.

Until next time,

Emma xxx

P.S. I absolutely have to tell you about the wild horses I spotted at Letchworth! A whole herd of them galloping across the open fields. They looked so elegant, with their sleek black coats and powerful limbs. Just magnificent creatures. Seeing them running free gave me all the feels! Truly reminded me why I love horses so much. And what better way to end a perfect day in Letchworth?
