East Ham Calling: Feathers & Flounces for a Friday Night

#TutuBlog Post #2145

Darling readers,

Well, here I am in East Ham, the very heart of the London boroughs! Itā€™s a rather charming corner of London, full of unexpected surprises and of course, some amazing history - did you know the Thames Barrier is in this very borough? It feels rather appropriate since I'm definitely planning to build my own barriers tonight! šŸ˜‰

How are my darlings this fine Friday evening? Have you all had a gloriously dance-filled week? I certainly have!

I know I say this every day, but the feeling of twirling in a new tutu simply never gets old! Todayā€™s attire is a very special one, featuring my newest feathered masterpiece! Yes, darling, itā€™s a gorgeous pink concoction - the feathers are literally dancing on my body, and frankly, they feel pretty fabulous. If you are in London tonight, youā€™ll know just who it is flitting around on the Underground, spreading some serious tutuspiration!

But back to my adventuresā€¦

As I arrived in East Ham this afternoon, I couldn't help but get swept up in the bustling atmosphere! It truly felt like the energy of London was pulsing around me. After Iā€™d made myself comfortable in my darling little pink hotel suite - complete with a fluffy pink robe (and matching pink slippers, natch!) - I headed for a leisurely stroll around the town centre. You know how I love finding charming little corners, secret gardens, and delightful boutiques - this place didn't disappoint.

The local market is definitely a must-see. Imagine, stalls bursting with fresh fruit and vibrant flowers. It made me want to break out a giant paintbrush and create a masterpiece in the spirit of Van Gogh! They had some scrumptious cupcakes, too - pink of course! I was like a kid in a candy store, and to think it was only 5pm.

But I must tell you about the highlight of the dayā€¦

You wonā€™t believe what happened! While wandering down a quiet street (which, if Iā€™m honest, I think I was more in search of a decent coffee - I canā€™t travel without my caffeine!), I stumbled upon the most extraordinary sight. Imagineā€¦ an open field, filled with dozens of sheep! Now, I adore animals - any of you who have been following #TutuBlog knows I am particularly fond of the gentle giants of the animal kingdom, elephants. But, darling, I was completely enchanted by the fluffy charm of these East Ham sheep!

They were a rather large group and their wool was a soft, creamy white - the kind of colour you see in those glorious sunsets that paint the skies of Derbyshire! (A girl can't get enough of those!). I must say they were quite the sight to behold, and so very photogenic! I even captured a picture with a sweet little lamb. He's practically my twin - cute as a button, all eyes and ears, with those sweet little hooves! Iā€™ve just got to post this photo on my Insta tonight!

Right, after that unexpected encounter, I found myself at an absolute gem - an independently owned cafe, just the way I like them! It was nestled away on a cobblestone lane. I must confess, darling, the name of this darling little cafĆ© ā€œTea & Tutuā€ gave me goosebumps. Donā€™t be silly, I wasn't just being dramatic - a girlā€™s got to have some drama in her life. It's in the tutu blood! So, I practically waltzed in. I even twirled a littleā€¦ it's hard not to with a new pink tutu!

They had the most delicious scones and strawberry jam. It really hit the spot after that walk - if only I'd had a good cuppa with it allā€¦ I always have a small flask of tea with me, but somehow, this time I'd forgotten. It must be all that twirling, darling.

But I was on a mission, darling. A serious mission.

To find the local ballet studioā€¦ or was it dance academy? Honestly, itā€™s quite hard to keep up with all the different names they give those lovely studios. Thankfully, my search proved to be rather easy. After only a short hop down the road (and letā€™s be honest, a good twenty minutes of humming along to the "Swan Lake" soundtrack ā€“ just ask my neighbours!), I spotted the little shop, glowing in the setting sun! The place was practically shouting ā€œBallet!ā€. They even had the cute pink ballerinas that I so love hanging on the door!

So, inside I went, my feather tutu causing a few whispers and the odd raised eyebrowā€¦ I must say I love my feathered masterpiece - itā€™s a serious attention grabber! But, hey, I love a bit of theatrics. After all, my ballet isnā€™t a conventional type of ballet - my ballet has a lot to do with dramatic movements and captivating audiences, so why wouldnā€™t I try to make an impression when Iā€™m out in public, right? After all, itā€™s all part of the charm! Don't worry, darling, there were no ruffled feathers about my arrival! Iā€™m such a professional - or perhaps I should say " tutu-professional!ā€

It was absolutely perfect. I did my usual: introduced myself to everyone, got involved with the group session, and gave a quick impromptu ā€œmini-ballet lessonā€ as it wereā€¦ after all, every dance studio deserves a touch of Tutu- magic. Even the little tots had a go at the grand jetĆ© ā€“ that's right, it was practically Tutu Time for everyone, from the smallest beginner to the most advanced dancers in the studio!

Then, as fate would have it - and I think my little pink tutuā€™s magnetism has a lot to do with my "luck", if you catch my drift - I found myself in a fantastic conversation with a couple of students. The best part is, they absolutely adored my pink tutu ā€“ one of the lovely dancers even called me ā€œTutu Princessā€ And that, darling, was truly the highlight of the evening. They all were completely on board with spreading Tutu-Joy. A few even had a pink tutu hidden away in their lockersā€¦ but it seems they haven't had a reason to wear itā€¦ until now! (I think I might have given them some much-needed ā€œtutu-spirationā€ for their next recital.)

To say that it was a great start to the weekend would be a huge understatement, darling! Honestly, East Ham is fast becoming a new favoriteā€¦ not least because the residents seem to share my love of the extraordinary, of creativity and imagination. And most definitely a fondness for a little pink! I'm planning to make the most of it this weekend, including another quick peek at the market for more pink cupcake funā€¦ and maybe another peek at those lovely, fluffy sheepā€¦ perhaps a ride to town tomorrow! I love getting around by horse - it's much more graceful and gives you time to reflect on the world going by. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That applies to horse riding, donā€™t you think? And my goodness, how elegant they are!

Oh, and if Iā€™m feeling particularly fancy, I'm thinking a little "Tutu tea party" on the beach tonight. I will have to look up some "Pink Tutu-Friendly" picnic spots.

Now, Iā€™d better get this post written!

Till tomorrow my loveliesā€¦ keep it tutu-fabulous,

Your favorite ballet blogger,

Emma xoxo
