Consett Calling! 🩰🌸

Hello darlings! πŸ‘‹ It's Emma here, fresh from a delightful jaunt to Consett, a charming little town nestled in the heart of County Durham! I've been itching to explore more of the North East for ages, and Consett just called out to me. After all, what's a ballet aficionado like me to do when the weather's getting chillier, but hop on a train and get whisked away to somewhere with a bit of history and a sprinkle of magic?

This time, I opted for a sleek pink dress, of course, paired with my trusty black velvet ballerina flats - you never know when the opportunity for a spontaneous pirouette might arise! πŸ˜‰ The journey itself was a treat, I was lucky enough to grab a seat by the window and soak in the autumnal scenery. Lush forests, quaint villages whizzing by, it truly felt like stepping into one of those classic ballet stories!

Consett itself, well, it's a hidden gem! This town's got character to spare, charming shops with friendly faces, cafes oozing that cozy vintage vibe, and don't even get me started on the architecture! Imagine a mix of old industrial charm with a touch of the modern world, a symphony of red brick and gleaming steel. It's absolutely enchanting.

Speaking of charming, the local folk were incredibly warm and welcoming. My first stop was a tiny little bakery - and I simply couldn't resist a pink and white frosted cupcake (the icing was ridiculously delicious, and of course, I had to do a little cupcake twirl!). The baker, a lovely woman named Sheila, was thrilled to hear about my passion for ballet. "Ah, you remind me of my daughter," she beamed, "she used to dance, even won a competition once!" I swear, it's like my love for ballet attracts kindred spirits!

From the bakery, I wandered into the heart of the town. The Consett Empire Theatre is a beautiful old building, full of history. It's just a hop, skip, and jump from the bustling town square and there was something wonderfully comforting about stepping back in time and breathing in the air of theatrical history. My mind was racing with stories of the dancers and performers who'd graced those stages!

The sun started to dip, casting a warm glow on the cobbled streets and the town's atmosphere transformed into a beautiful evening fairy tale. There was a gentle wind whispering through the trees and the sound of distant music. Consett felt incredibly peaceful - a place where you could just let go, breathe deep and embrace the quiet magic. I sat on a park bench for a while, just watching the world go by and thinking about my next adventures! I knew that, even though I was leaving the next day, Consett had already made a special place in my heart.

After all, it wouldn't be a true "Emma-style" trip without a little dose of nature. My favourite thing to do is head out to open countryside on my beloved horse, 'Prince', he's a chestnut with a gentle spirit and an uncanny ability to always know the way home! However, as Prince had a touch of hay fever and I was heading off on a solo trip, I decided to try a more "Emma" esque solution. A carriage ride!

So, I popped by Consett's charming horse and carriage tours (because, why wouldn't there be such a thing?!) and booked myself a ride for the morning! And it was truly magical, let me tell you! 🐎 The carriage took me on a journey through the rolling green hills just outside of town, and we even spotted a friendly fox who sauntered right onto the road, gave us a cheeky stare, and sauntered back into the undergrowth. What a day!

Of course, my trip wouldn't have been complete without indulging my other passion: watching a performance. A local dance academy was hosting a special ballet evening, featuring students showcasing their talents. Seeing those young, vibrant dancers on stage was just the pick-me-up I needed. The passion, the artistry, the pure joy on their faces… it was a beautiful reminder of why I fell in love with ballet all those years ago. It honestly makes me think that the most important message I've got to spread is the joy of movement. 🩰

So, back to my challenge, to make the world a more tutu-tiful place! You've seen my favourite pink tutu, and you know my motto: "More tutus in the world!". But seriously, dance doesn't need to be about fancy costumes and big stages (although those are pretty amazing, don't get me wrong!). It's about the feeling, about the freedom of movement, the joy of expressing yourself, a little like dancing in your living room. Just let your body feel the rhythm!

Until next time, remember, there's always something magical around the corner - maybe even in your own backyard!

With a big, pink, tutus-full hug,

Emma xx
