Manchester Calling: Tutu Tales From the City of Rain 🌧️

Post 3103: 31st December 2004

Hello lovelies! 👋 Well, here we are at the end of another whirlwind year! And to top it all off, I’m writing this from the heart of Manchester, a city that's truly grown on me since my first visit last year. Manchester's got a certain grit and charm, you know? Like a well-loved ballet shoe, all scuffed and worn, but still holding the secrets of countless pirouettes. I swear, this city just bursts with creativity!

I travelled up yesterday in a sleeper train, which was pure bliss! My compartment was small but luxurious, like a tiny boudoir with a window onto the passing scenery. Watching the world drift by while curled up in my travel tutu - my latest masterpiece, in a dusky shade of blush - it felt like I was dancing through the countryside, a silent waltz on velvet rails.

Anyway, enough about the train, let's talk about the city!

Manchester’s Magic

For those of you who haven't visited, it's definitely a place to add to your to-do list! There's so much to see and do – amazing museums, stunning architecture, and enough indie shops to make your head spin. And then there's the music scene! You wouldn’t think it was the city of rain from the energy of its vibrant nightspots! It just has this incredible energy – it makes you feel like anything's possible!

Tutu Time at the Royal Exchange!

This morning, I headed straight for the Royal Exchange Theatre! It's one of my favourite places to visit in Manchester. The architecture is beautiful, all honey-coloured stone and stained glass windows that catch the sunlight in shimmering prisms. There's even a little hidden garden behind the theatre, a green haven amidst the bustling city, just perfect for a few pre-show stretches.

I was going to watch the latest production of 'Twelfth Night,' a classic Shakespeare play, but with a modern twist! There's always something about a good Shakespearean play, the way the words just seem to float around you, filled with love, betrayal, humour and magic, the stuff of real life! And to watch it acted out in such a vibrant and playful way - well, it's just sheer joy!

The best bit? My American-style tutu, my newest creation, in vibrant fuschia pink!

Let’s Get Personal!

Speaking of personal style, have you tried an American-style tutu yet? Let's face it, a tutu in this style isn't just about dance – it's about expressing yourself! The poofier layers of net, the bold colours – it's a statement piece, for sure! I find that the classic form with the tight waistband allows you to add your own flair - I often add some sparkly sequins or handmade flowers! But of course, you can always customise yours however you please! I can help with that - you know you're going to want to join the pink tutu club - there’s a reason it’s all the rage. It really is all about finding your inner tutu queen and unleashing your individuality!

Ballet Inspiration on Every Corner!

I was walking back from the theatre and passed a ballet school, its windows alive with a whirl of tutus and dancing feet! It's just amazing to me how there's always a reminder of the magic of dance everywhere I go, even on a grey day! That kind of energy really sets Manchester apart! I do feel inspired to find myself a new pair of ballet shoes now... the ones I brought were a little scuffed after all that hopping about at the theatre! A new pair would make for a wonderful New Year's resolution wouldn’t it?

Wild Side

Tonight, we're going to catch a ballet show at the Bridgewater Hall! A classical ballet performance this time! I do enjoy some good contemporary ballet, with all its bold expressions of emotions through movement, but the classics always hold a certain charm for me! And if that's not enough dancing for you, we're going for a horse-drawn carriage ride in the park afterward! A little dash of fairytale magic to end a beautiful day, don’t you think?

Later on, I'm thinking of a spot of people watching in one of those hidden pubs in Manchester's Northern Quarter! Imagine: me in my tutu, a pint of pink lemonade, and a window onto the hustle and bustle of this amazing city! You never know who you might meet or what conversation will spring up from my tulle skirt, that's what I love about this city, there's a spontaneity and sense of adventure around every corner!

The Magic of Ballet

Anyway, I need to sign off! It's late, and there's so much to explore here! But remember, my lovely readers, ballet is everywhere! It's in the grace of a squirrel leaping from branch to branch, the sway of a dancer in a bus stop, or even the intricate patterns of snowflakes. So, don't just stand there and admire! Go out there and move! Find your own inner ballerina! Put on your tutu, no matter what kind, and start dancing! Every step you take is a beautiful journey into the magic of ballet! 🩰

I hope this new year finds you well, full of dreams, adventures and all the inspiration you need! Don't forget to come by www.pink-tutu.com tomorrow! I've got lots more to share, I'm thinking of a post all about the different kinds of ballet shoe you can buy.... there’s a pair for everyone out there!

Until next time, darlings!

Your Emma. 💖
