Aylesbury Adventures: A Pancake Tutu and a Leap of Faith

Hello my lovely Pink Tutu Posse!

Well, I'm back from my latest adventure, and let me tell you, this one was a real treat. I’ve been getting all nostalgic and reminiscing about my time in Aylesbury. A real dash of delightful, that's what it was!

Today's blog is a special one for all of you. This one is all about letting your imagination take flight and reminding yourselves how much fun the simple things in life can be.

It started as a usual morning in my little Derbyshire cottage. I woke up with a spring in my step, fueled by my beloved breakfast of poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and a good old cuppa. As usual, my pink fluffy robe felt just right for this blissful pre-ballet routine. The only difference? This time, my muse was calling me to a world of deliciousness.

I decided I just had to whip up a pancake tutu for the day! That's right, a pancake tutu! Yes, you heard correctly. It’s what happens when a fashion-forward ballet dancer has too much free time before the journey begins. I’d say it's quite a look – picture perfectly fluffy pancakes carefully draped over a classic tutu, drizzled with a decadent swirl of maple syrup, sprinkled with some sugared flower petals for a dash of springtime whimsy! I must admit it wasn't exactly practical but definitely delicious!

Of course, I wore my go-to, vibrant pink knit cardigan on top to ensure the whole ensemble felt polished and, let's say, not exactly a full-on "breakfast disaster!" (Although, let's be honest, a few syrup sprinkles did wind up on my cheeks… what can you do?)

With a little hop and skip, I was ready for my next journey!

You might think a pink tutu would look a little out of place on the 8.08 from Buxton to Aylesbury. But guess what? That just adds to the fun! And you know what? Nobody bat an eyelid! As if tutus are just something everyone wears! Oh, to be living in a pink tutu world!

That journey by train, with all the chatter and clinking mugs, is an adventure in itself, don't you think? My favourite thing about travelling by train, other than the scenery, has to be the chance encounters with new people, like a lovely little girl who told me all about her favourite ballerina and her pet goldfish, Glimmer. It’s just magical! The train truly feels like a moving piece of theatre.

Upon arriving at the charming town of Aylesbury, I was welcomed by its Victorian brick houses and quaint little tea shops. The aroma of freshly baked scones filled the air, and you could just sense a strong spirit of community, which reminded me of home! The vibe was simply delightful.

With a quick pit stop at a little shop selling vintage china and handmade trinkets – I simply couldn't resist picking up a pretty porcelain owl for my dressing table (and to remind me of all the owls I love to spot on my walks)! - it was time for my true reason for visiting Aylesbury, my absolute favourite part of this entire trip: THE BALLET!

Yes, you guessed it – the reason I travelled all the way from Derbyshire! I’m going to tell you about it in detail – the story of a beautiful ballet production that touched my soul. This performance, which I was so excited to attend, really captured the true magic of dance.

The venue itself, the beautiful Waterside Theatre, felt like a timeless, enchanting sanctuary. Stepping inside, I was captivated by the rich tapestry and velvet curtains – the colours a true inspiration. And to my surprise, the little town of Aylesbury even had a pink and sparkly box for me. Isn’t that divine?!

Oh, and it’s almost a bit cliché at this point but this ballet – a beautiful adaptation of "The Swan Lake," actually moved me to tears! The dancers moved so fluidly, like swans floating on the water! The passion and elegance truly had me in a state of pure wonder!

Then, my lovely journey continued at The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre! It’s one of those places where every corner screams drama – you can just imagine the stories whispering from its walls! But the real treasure is that gorgeous auditorium, its every seat a window to the soul-stirring magic of dance. Oh, it was absolutely spectacular, with dancers leaping and swirling and creating such emotion through their bodies! I can't wait to visit again soon, especially after meeting such friendly and interesting people!

Speaking of magical experiences, have I mentioned my adventures exploring Aylesbury? As a passionate ballet dancer, you just have to keep up your fitness, even when on the road, right? Now, I just love open green spaces so my little journey started with a delightful meander through The Aylesbury Vale, which boasts stunning scenery – so peaceful and inspiring for my dancing, you know? It was there, as I was admiring the buttercups and daises – which felt as if they were dancing in the breeze, no less than a graceful ballerina! – I decided to stop by a lovely local bakery, where I discovered the most beautiful hand-painted pastries and macarons. This whole place just radiated sweetness, like a delicious ballet tutu dream!

Now, you already know, I adore exploring the wilderness too – something that comes naturally, being from Derbyshire – a region abundant with rolling hills and enchanting forests! It seems that Aylesbury doesn't disappoint in that area!

One sunny afternoon, I decided to make a detour into the beautiful wildlife park - what joy! I just love watching all the different creatures going about their daily life in the spacious enclosures! But the one thing that really impressed me? It was that they have a whole area dedicated to native wild orchids. Their flowers were such an amazing array of delicate pinks, yellows, and purple! I truly felt as if I was watching nature put on her own little ballet for me! It made me wish I had some orchids in my cottage back in Derbyshire – for sure I will find some for my little sanctuary.

Later that evening, I couldn’t resist making a quick visit to a quaint little shop called "The Quirky Cupboard." It was chock-full of quirky gifts, antique trinkets, and the most exquisite vintage teacups. As a lover of all things charming and charming, I found a stunning little teacup with tiny ballerina figurines all around! Perfect, don't you think?!

You know, I love my little trips. But really, it’s those simple things, that make the journey worthwhile. A pink pancake tutu, a chance encounter with a friendly soul, the beauty of the natural world, and a performance that steals your breath away. This was just a tiny slice of the adventure in Aylesbury!

So, my darlings, until next time, keep on shining, keep dancing, keep on inspiring!

Don't forget to wear your tutu (pink ones, preferably!)

All the love,

Emma
