Brixton Bound: A Tutu Adventure!

#TutuBlog Post #3173

Oh my darlings, I'm utterly brimming with excitement, for this is no ordinary day! You see, today is a day for Brixton! Yes, Brixton! Now, I know what you're thinking: "Brixton? But Emma, darling, what could you possibly find in that place?"

Well, my dears, let me tell you, Brixton has become a bit of a secret haven for me! You wouldn't believe the amazing ballet studios hidden within its vibrant streets. The air crackles with energy and the music spills onto the pavements like a pink-tinged wave! It’s positively exhilarating!

Today, I'm donning my newest tutu creation: a vision in powder pink chiffon, with a touch of shimmering gold at the hem. It’s my new lucky number for getting those leaps perfectly executed. (Trust me, it really makes a difference).

But before I waltz my way onto the stage of my very first Brixton dance class, let's rewind the clock a little!

Derby to London: A Tutu-licious Journey

Imagine, if you will, the Derbyshire countryside. Sunlight dappling through the green, rolling hills, fluffy clouds drifting across the azure sky. The sound of sheep bleating lazily and the distant cry of a crow - oh, bliss!

This idyllic scene, I swear, always gets me into a wonderfully inspired mood for ballet. It's all so graceful and elegant. It makes you want to just twirl and twirl!

But it's time to get out of my tutu daydreams and back to the practicalities! This little tutu-loving adventurer had to get to London!

My solution, as always, was my trusty steed! Not a four-legged one this time, though. Oh, no! Today, I had to go by train. It's my favourite way to travel: all the chic commuters, the view whizzing past, and the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels.

And can you believe, the whole train carriage knew what I was up to? (Don't worry, they weren't judging my slightly impractical outfit). One look at the shimmering tutu and my fluffy pink handbag (the perfect companion!), and everyone knew: Emma's off to dance!

But there was one slight hiccup! Yes, hiccup - my Tutu-travel bag was bursting! I always pack so many outfits (you know how much I love them, darlings), so much glitter and of course, all my favourite pink ballet necessities: those darling little pink hair scrunchies and that divine bottle of shimmering body oil. It just always seems to bulge out a bit!

You know how it is - a bit of a squeeze here, a little manoeuvre there... and I even had to call upon my darling granny's time-tested tutu-carrying technique: a very carefully folded ballerina wrap (don't tell my mum I'm sharing her little secret)!

And guess what?! A fellow traveler - clearly a kindred spirit - was so charmed by my overflowing bag! She exclaimed, "I absolutely love what you've done with that tutu! You're giving me a total pink tutu fashion fix!”

That's the lovely thing about a well-chosen pink tutu! It just makes people happy!

Stepping onto the Stage in Brixton

So there I was, a little flustered (but so wonderfully happy) after my mini-fashion show on the train, finally reaching Brixton station! It was like stepping into another world, full of pulsating energy!

I love the raw, artistic vibrancy of it all - from the music floating through open windows to the colorful murals bursting with life! And there I was, my tulle cascading about my legs, with the sun shining in my hair - the only thing I missed was a soundtrack of classical music to fully set the scene. But never mind - inner-ballet was in full force.

Then, I arrived at the studio! I could already feel my nerves begin to tingle, but also oh so much anticipation, too! This studio, my dears, was more than just any studio.

Oh, it had it all! It’s in one of the prettiest little cobblestone backstreets! The walls are brick, but in a way that makes you feel really cozy and welcomed, and then the window facing the street has a giant painting of a woman in a ballet costume, her legs stretched up high, looking out onto the street as if she was going to step right out. They even played my favorite ballet song when I came in, which made me smile!

A kind chap called Harry, in the studio, saw the slight tremor in my hand as I reached for my Tutu-bag, (bless him!). He just chuckled warmly and said, “Take a moment, love, there’s no need to rush!” I’ve never felt more at home.

I unpacked all my favourite pink tutu accessories. That precious glitter and my ballet shoes, and I put them all around my tiny space in the corner.

Brixton, Brixton, What a Place to be!

Oh my, that first class! Such a joy! We explored all kinds of movement! We spun! We leapt! We glided like elegant swans on the sparkling, glassy stage of Brixton (I did add a little of that magic myself!). The sun filtered in, painting the studio floor in streaks of gold light, making it feel like a stage bathed in the spotlight of a Parisian theater! It was positively magical.

The instructor, a beautiful, spirited woman called Lily, even gave me a quick tip on my grand jeté - it turned out my posture was all off, (Oh, I was such a disaster at first). I have to admit, she gave me some very good advice. Lily’s posture is the perfect inspiration! She is literally like a living sculpture! I always admire those elegant, strong, confident ballet dancers.

Now, after all those leaps and turns, my energy is at a peak. But always keeping up a strict routine when you're dancing - that's very important for a good, healthy tutu-wearing body, darling!

And so, for the moment, I’m now tucking into a very healthy vegan lunch! The Brixton Market is teeming with deliciousness and color. My new favorite is a tofu-stuffed whole wheat wrap. My inner ballerina demands nothing but the best fuel. And who knows, perhaps I’ll even treat myself to a tiny cupcake at Peggy Porschen’s, just to bring a touch of magic to the afternoon!

You know, darling, I'm not sure what I love most about Brixton. The colourful murals that bring the whole place alive, the ballet studios brimming with passion, or just that raw, spirited, artistic vibe? But what I do know is that Brixton will remain firmly in my heart as a ballet-lover's dream!

Tomorrow, darling, we'll embark on another exciting tutu adventure! Don't miss out!

Stay fabulous,

Emma xoxo
