Morden Calling: Tutu Tales and a Black Swan in the Suburbs! 🩰

Post Number 3242

Hey everyone, it's your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma! Back with you all from the depths of London! This time, it's Morden, which is… well… interesting. Not your usual tourist trap, that's for sure. 😜 But even a bit of "ordinary" London can be delightful with the right outfit, eh? This trip called for a bold statement. My black tutu - all flowy silk and a touch of mysterious drama. (Plus, black looks super chic against the grey London sky!) 😉

Now, Morden isn't the most exciting place on earth for ballet. Let's be honest, a girl can dream of being on stage at the Royal Opera House, but there's something about being the only one wearing a tutu at your local station that brings a different kind of thrill! 😂

You know me, I always go exploring - be it a new London suburb or a distant dance studio! 🗺️ I caught the train down, of course. There's something so elegant about a steam train, gliding across the landscape. Makes you feel like a Victorian lady in a fancy carriage, only, you know, without the need for a corset! 🙌

Turns out, Morden holds a delightful surprise - a gorgeous park! Picture this: a sun-drenched meadow, with wild deer wandering freely amongst the trees, and the sounds of happy families enjoying the afternoon. So charming! Even better? The deer weren’t bothered by my bright pink top and black tutu - just curious about what the new visitor was doing in their grassy realm. So we shared some friendly "eye" contact! 😉

After my nature exploration, I needed a caffeine boost! Morden doesn’t disappoint on that front either - the café I found had delicious cakes (I always choose pink frosting!) and surprisingly decent coffee. Plus, the staff seemed to adore my outfit! 😂 They were so chuffed to see a bit of "theatre" in their daily routine, and let's face it, that little bit of colour brightened everyone’s day! 💖

In the evening, I braved a "street performance" by the local theatre group. Not your typical ballet, darling, more of a community affair with some serious energy and a healthy dose of Shakespearean drama. Now, it may not have been all pirouettes and arabesques, but it was certainly engaging and the community spirit was heartwarming! They all seemed so happy to have an audience, no matter how tiny (it was mostly me and a dog walker, ha!) It's all about spreading that love of theatre and artistic expression, right? 😊

I couldn't leave without trying a bit of their local dance scene, of course! A little hidden ballet studio was waiting just around the corner from the park. I snuck into a beginner’s class. Turns out, it was just a small, local class with a bunch of ladies who were learning how to find their balance and enjoy movement. It was such a sweet experience. They all cheered me on when I demonstrated my moves! A real treat for a solo traveller.

This might not be the ballet mecca you'd expect, but Morden offered a beautiful day. And for that, it deserves a little "pink tutu" appreciation!

What’s next on my ballet adventure? Who knows! Maybe the Scottish Highlands for a "Highlander tutu" look - or even the ballet capitals of Paris and Moscow? What do you guys think? Let me know!

Remember, everyone's inner dancer is waiting to be discovered, so embrace your pink tutus and embrace life’s dance! 🩰

Love,

Emma
