Rutherglen: A Tutu-tastic Trip and a Foodie Fiesta!

Post 3314

Oh my darlings, it's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, writing to you from the charming town of Rutherglen! This little gem is just a stone's throw from Glasgow, but it feels a world away. It's got this charming old-world vibe, with cobbled streets and beautiful Georgian buildings, all nestled in the lush Scottish countryside. My favourite part? The quaint little shops overflowing with local produce – think artisan cheeses, fresh-baked bread, and of course, my weakness – a generous selection of the most delightful pink cupcakes!

I'm sure you'll all agree that no trip is complete without a splash of pink, right? So naturally, I donned my most flamboyant tutu, adorned with sugared flowers, to blend in with the colourful displays at the market. It’s true, I do like to be a little theatrical! And besides, nothing quite embodies the joyful energy of Rutherglen like a fluttering pink tutu! I mean, think about it, pink is the colour of hope and happiness, right? And what could be more optimistic than twirling in a tulle masterpiece?

This trip was particularly exciting as I got to ride here on horseback! Imagine, galloping through the Scottish meadows, feeling the wind in my hair and the thrill of freedom coursing through my veins! The horse, a gorgeous chestnut called 'Pinky', was an absolute dream – all docile and sweet. He seemed to share my enthusiasm for everything pink, or maybe it was just my pink riding boots that enchanted him. Whatever the reason, it was the most delightful journey, truly a 'tale as old as time', right?

After our gallop, I was ready to immerse myself in the heart of Rutherglen – the glorious food scene. Let me tell you, darlings, they know their culinary crafts here! First, a stop at the "Teacup & Tutu", an adorable cafe, of course, painted a shade of rose that I just couldn't resist. I was utterly enchanted by the beautiful porcelain teacups and saucers, every one different and unique. But even more tempting was the freshly-baked raspberry cake. Yes, my friends, pink and raspberry – the perfect match made in heaven!

After my sugary fix, it was time for a culinary journey, and where else to begin than with the iconic Rutherglen Wine? We all know pink wine is a constant companion of mine – and Rutherglen has the sweetest and most tantalizing versions of this beloved nectar! After all, a pink-tutu wearing ballerina always needs a little bubbly in her life! I think we all agree, no matter what the occasion, there's something very special about popping open a bottle of pink fizz. The air bubbles add a certain touch of magic!

For dinner, I treated myself to a plate of Rutherglen’s famous "Fudgey-licious" – think, fudge, but even more delightful, a dessert made with locally sourced apples and cranberries. Of course, it was served on a pink platter with delicate floral detailing - this place is practically my style! And I washed it all down with a creamy cappuccino, my favourite post-dinner beverage.

While indulging in culinary delights, I couldn't resist the call of the dance floor, the rhythm pulsing through my veins! Thankfully, Rutherglen offered an abundance of dance studios, perfect for me to try some new moves and relive the magic of ballet! And let me tell you, a little tutuing after a fantastic meal, all while under the glittering chandeliers of a 19th century building, really does add to the atmosphere! The atmosphere, the music, the movement – all perfectly intertwined to make this a true 'tutu-tastic' evening!

Now, you know how much I love bringing ballet into the everyday, and you can bet I took every opportunity to share the magic with locals. I gave a spontaneous flash-mob performance at the park, wearing a new pastel pink tutu embellished with twinkling stars. The locals were so delightful, joining in with the routines and the sheer joy of movement! They might not have been seasoned dancers, but everyone was smiling and twirling like there was no tomorrow! Seeing that joy sparked in the eyes of strangers reminded me just how powerful dance is. It doesn't matter if you’re a professional or simply someone trying out their first plie, ballet has a magic power that makes the world a brighter place.

Before leaving Rutherglen, I had a truly unique encounter - an impromptu tea party with some fluffy lambs! I sat beneath the shade of an ancient oak, munching on dainty pink sandwiches, sipping tea, and petting those sweet little lambs. They were adorable and surprisingly well-behaved, so I did teach them some rudimentary pirouette moves! They couldn't quite master the balance, but the wobble in their steps added an endearing touch. You should have seen them! Absolutely precious!

Leaving Rutherglen, I took the scenic route back to Derbyshire, settling myself in the plush train compartment. This time, I was all dressed up in a gorgeous emerald green tutu, with little sequins and ribbons swirling as I walked along the carriage. My journey back felt like a fairytale, looking out of the window at the passing meadows and fields as the sun was setting. The scenery felt so romantic – all those beautiful colours, vibrant yet soft, mirroring my emerald green tutu. You see, my darlings, every trip, every journey is a story in itself – one that’s made even more magical with a pink tutu.

I’ve come to realize that a pink tutu, especially a brightly coloured one, is so much more than just a piece of clothing; it’s an invitation, a whisper to be brave, a call to joy! It's a way to express my love for life, for laughter, for the little things that make life truly extraordinary. So let’s all embrace our inner tutus and spread some pink magic to everyone we meet, yes? Let's make the world a more vibrant and joyful place, one tutu at a time!

And now, darlings, off I go, ready to embrace the next adventure with a smile on my face and, of course, my pink tutu. Till next time, stay glamorous, stay vibrant, and most importantly, never stop believing in the power of a twirl!

Yours always, Emma xx
