Hampstead Heaven: A Tutu-licious Day Out!

#3498

Darling readers,

Hello from Hampstead! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I’m absolutely buzzing, not just because I’m wearing this gloriously fluffy, vibrant orange tutu (which just screamed to be paired with my pink suede knee-high boots - because, obviously, I never miss an opportunity for a colour clash), but because today was absolutely brimming with pure ballet joy!

I must confess, I’m slightly obsessed with Hampstead, with its charming winding lanes, beautiful parks, and frankly, the delicious afternoon tea. Today, it was the setting for a wonderfully inspiring day of ballet brilliance!

It all started with the most delightful train journey. You see, there’s nothing like the calming sway of the carriages, the gentle clatter of the tracks, and the chance to people-watch as the countryside rushes by. I couldn’t resist sharing a packet of pink and white striped sweets with a little boy, and, well, we ended up having the most delightful chat about all things ballet.

Arriving at Hampstead Heath, I was instantly taken aback by the sheer expanse of nature, the gorgeous greenery. This park is absolutely enormous, and I couldn’t wait to explore! It’s always been a favourite haunt for ballet rehearsals (don’t tell the neighbours I’ve practiced my pirouettes there, especially not after that incident with the rogue swan… but more on that later!), and today, it didn’t disappoint!

First up, it was a trip to the iconic Keats House Museum. This place is utterly enchanting, bursting with literary history, and honestly, it just exuded an artistic energy that made me feel utterly inspired! The house was absolutely breathtaking, full of charming nooks and crannies perfect for twirling (don’t worry, I kept it discrete, though the squirrels definitely did judge my posture).

Then, after a deliciously indulgent slice of Victoria sponge cake, it was time for a dance in the heart of Hampstead Heath itself. Picture this, darling: a sprawling meadow, golden sunlight bathing everything in a warm glow, the gentle breeze rustling through the leaves, and me, twirling in my orange tutu, with a massive smile on my face! Oh, the pure joy!

It was on this joyous ramble through the Heath that I had that amusing encounter with the swan. Well, let's just say my "swan lake" pirouette went slightly awry when it became clear the majestic bird didn’t share my enthusiasm for a quick cha-cha. Honestly, he looked absolutely horrified! Thankfully, he didn't try to chase me with a hiss, and I simply waltzed on, ever the graceful dancer.

After a day of balletic bliss, it was time for the final touch: dinner in a truly adorable Hampstead restaurant. And let’s be honest, the only place I’m truly in my element is a place where pink lemonade is on the menu! The restaurant was cosy, and the staff, lovely. They didn’t even bat an eye when I told them I'd be dining with the pink tutu – it’s a look that truly never fails to attract attention! The food, divine! It made my ballet heart sing.

Heading back on the train, feeling energised and utterly smitten with Hampstead, it struck me again. There's a magic about this place, a sense of creativity and beauty that simply draws me in. And honestly, after today, my love affair with this charming part of London has deepened even more.

Perhaps a future tutu blog will feature the unveiling of a pink tutu-clad horse drawn carriage… or a ballet class with the swans? (One can only dream!).

Remember, darlings, life’s too short to be anything but utterly and outrageously YOU.

So get your tutus ready, grab your favourite pair of ballet shoes (whether they be the pointy toe flats for a proper plié, or your pink sparkly slippers for your street style!), and don't be afraid to twirl with abandon!

Yours in pink and orange tulle,

Emma xx www.pink-tutu.com
