Droitwich: A Tutu Adventure in Pink!

Hello, my gorgeous twirling darlings!

It's Emma here, and I'm so excited to share a completely pink and absolutely fabulous adventure with you! Today I journeyed to Droitwich Spa, a charming little town in Worcestershire (a little known fact: it was a place I'd always dreamed of visiting!). And guess what? I brought my new, sparkling American-style tutu with me!

Let's talk trains first, shall we? The train ride to Droitwich was divine, as always. A long train journey for a ballet girl is never dull, and let me tell you, I felt like royalty gliding past the countryside! Of course, my new pink tutu with the shimmering sequins took center stage, and I practically gleamed as the sun bathed the carriage in its warm glow. Some people even pointed, but not in a bad way, mind you!

But even the train journey couldn't hold a candle to the amazingness of Droitwich. The whole town has a distinctly Victorian charm. I could picture ladies in their bonnets, and gentlemen in their finest attire, all taking a leisurely stroll around the beautiful Saltway, which is lined with quirky independent shops.

Speaking of quirky, the Droitwich Spa itself is breathtaking. Just the sheer scale of it, built out of red brick and stone, makes you feel transported to another era. I can’t even imagine the elaborate balls that must have been held within its walls – you can practically hear the waltz echoing around the rooms. I'll confess, I've never been a history buff, but Droitwich managed to sweep me up into its fascinating story!

After exploring the spa, I took a delightful little wander down to the river, where a flock of swans gracefully made their way across the water, as if in a ballet of their own! It reminded me of my recent visit to the Derwent Valley, which is filled with amazing wildlife - and makes me pine even more for the open spaces of Derbyshire. It's a good job I had my pink tutu on, the swans loved it!

Now, here’s a thought: Imagine the perfect dance piece inspired by Droitwich? We could have swans twirling, waltzing gentlemen in black tailcoats, ladies in bonnets doing intricate pirouettes around the Saltway, a scene at the Spa filled with intricate balletic flourishes – the possibilities are endless! I need to get to work on that choreography pronto!

And speaking of choreography, I finally got around to trying that new ballet class I mentioned last week! My goodness, it's phenomenal! You all know I adore my regular classes at the Derby Dance Centre, but this new style is truly different and exciting! This teacher incorporates techniques from ballet, street dance and even some theatre styles! And she’s a whizz when it comes to designing costumes (and yes, you guessed it – a pink tutu was highly featured).

You can bet your bottom dollar that you'll be getting a full rundown of this class in my next blog post, my darlings! But for now, let’s just appreciate the magic of Droitwich Spa – a true jewel of the Midlands, and definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a beautiful, romantic, and history-filled getaway.

As always, remember to wear pink! And don't forget: everybody deserves a good tutu spin. So keep dancing, keep smiling, and keep following your heart.

Until next time, Emma xx
