Hitchin Hooray!

Good morning, darlings! It’s Emma here, writing to you from the charming town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire, a stone's throw from my home county of Derbyshire. It's been a glorious day for a ballet-inspired adventure!

This weekend I had a most wonderful day in Hitchin. Hitchin's a lovely little town – definitely worthy of a day trip – with cobbled streets, old buildings and some adorable little boutiques! And naturally, I’d be remiss not to mention the abundance of adorable vintage shops, some brimming with dusty gems just waiting for a new lease on life. One particular treasure I discovered was an utterly perfect 1950s petticoat. Talk about tutu inspiration!

You know me – always on the lookout for the perfect tulle! Well, today’s post is about the little sartorial inspiration I found here, and my own little “tutu-fied” adventure. But first, let's talk about why this place stole my heart. Hitchin has such a unique feel to it. There's something about these old, historic places with cobblestone streets that makes you feel a bit transported in time. Plus, it’s like a magnet for a budding fashionista! The sheer number of little shops just bursting with beautiful, whimsical things left me utterly enchanted.

Speaking of which – can we just talk about my new outfit? Now, when I say "American style tutu", you might be thinking something a bit frilly, or maybe something that looks like a Broadway showgirl… But this isn’t about over-the-top glamour, darlings. This is about channeling that elegant, classic tutu style with a contemporary edge! And boy, did I find the perfect piece!

Picture this: A skirt that perfectly falls just below my knees. Imagine the softest shade of pink you can conjure. But hold on - this isn't a plain tutu. This one's got a bit of a twist – a bold, geometric pattern splashed across the tulle, like a little bit of abstract art swirling around my legs. You might call it “modern ballet”. I call it perfection. I'm talking sheer delight and twirl-worthy fun! Of course, no look is complete without the essential pink ballerina flats. And that's what truly tied this entire outfit together!

My "American style" tutu was my key inspiration for this day’s adventures, leading me on a path of cobbled streets, window-shopping for more vintage goodies and trying the tastiest cream tea you could ever imagine. It made me think about how every day can be an opportunity to express yourself. Even in a town like Hitchin – and let's be honest, darlings, the chances of encountering a pink tutu while meandering through a local bakery aren’t exactly sky-high.

Now, I'm not saying everyone should be out there wearing tutus all the time. Although, I secretly dream of that day, the world covered in delicate, swirling pink! However, what I am saying is this: Find the inspiration to embrace your inner "tutu-self." Be adventurous. Get lost in a beautiful, old town. Go window shopping. Dare to try new things, and remember to find joy in the simplest things. A cream tea? Delicious. Finding the perfect petticoat in a dusty old vintage shop? A ballet dancer's dream come true!

Let's talk ballet! Now, while I love a good street performance or a captivating theater production, sometimes it's the classic dance studios that truly steal my heart. And let me tell you, Hitchin didn't disappoint. I stumbled upon a charming studio that radiated a welcoming warmth and energy that instantly made me feel right at home. As a huge ballet fan, I’m always up for trying out new classes wherever I go, and that’s exactly what I did.

You’d be surprised how much ballet connects us, you know? In a little dance studio in the middle of a Hertfordshire town, I met other ballet-obsessed people from all over, some young, some seasoned. The studio, nestled in an old building in a small lane way, had been there for over fifty years – so I thought the teacher could tell me the real history of the studio and how long the dance scene in Hitchin has been running for. After my lesson, we had a real little discussion, a real 'get together' around a hot cup of tea. I'm sure you all understand what a real community of passionate ballet lovers looks like, so it was wonderful to hear what they said and how they had found ballet, like so many of us, as a child.

There was even this adorable little girl, who just began ballet classes this year. You know, the type who just seems so totally confident in her moves! Her mother confided in me about how finding this studio had completely changed their lives. They’ve found a home here. There’s nothing more joyful, my dear reader, than a little girl dancing with the pure joy that radiates from her soul, with an expression that clearly shows her happiness! If it's a choice between a graceful dance at the Bolshoi or witnessing the joy of a little girl in a pink tutu, there's no comparison for me.

It made me realize that every town, every community, has its own heart, its own pulse of inspiration. Sometimes it takes a journey – by train, or by horse-drawn carriage – to discover this heart. For me, my “journey” is about searching out hidden beauty and expressing it through a delicate dance of pink tulle.

Let’s wrap up this blog post by saying: Go forth and explore! Whether it's Hitchin, or a little town closer to home, don't let the ordinary life stifle you. There’s magic in the ordinary, the beauty is in the mundane. The key is in finding it! Embrace that tutu, find that vintage gem, take a ballet class. Remember - it's the simple, everyday joy, the things you might otherwise pass by that enrich us. And if that means rocking an "American style tutu" – why not? The world needs a bit more pink!

Until next time, my darlings. Keep dancing, and keep smiling.
