Hitchin Hooray! Tutu Time in a Tudor Town

Post 4588

Oh, my darlings, how are you all doing today? Feeling full of pink-tutu-tastic energy, I hope! You know me, I always wake up with a twinkle in my eye and a gleaming pink tutu at the ready for adventure. And speaking of adventure, my little pink tutu heart is positively exploding with excitement today.

It's a day for exploration, my loves, for I've embarked on a magical journey by train to the enchanting town of Hitchin. Now, I've been to quite a few places in my pink tutu-wearing lifetime (the Lake District with Peter Rabbit on my shoulder is a firm favourite!), but Hitchin, my darlings, is a real charmer. This historic little gem sits nestled in Hertfordshire, where cobblestone streets are punctuated by ancient Tudor buildings, with half-timbered houses that seem to whisper stories from another era. The air smells of lavender, the streets are adorned with fairy lights, and I haven't even been to a ballet class yet! I already know this is a place I'll be wanting to revisit.

A Tutu-Friendly Welcome

The train journey itself was quite the spectacle, with all my pinkness practically vibrating off of me. Thankfully, I had a charming chap in a bowler hat sit opposite me, who kindly agreed to take my picture as I posed dramatically on the train platform in my fluffy, fuchsia-coloured tulle masterpiece. He must have been enchanted, as he offered me his pocket watch and insisted I keep it as a "lucky charm". The vintage, gold, ticking timepiece is perched on my wrist now as I type, nestled against my tutu-clad arm.

On arrival, my heart fluttered with excitement when I found a cafe right next to the train station named "The Pink Tutu Cafe." It seemed to beckon me to step inside, and of course, how could I refuse? It had delicious pastries and an array of pink floral teas, which were just my cup of… tea, really! I even persuaded the barista to wear a tiny pink tutu over her apron! That's my kind of cafe, right?

Tudor Treasures and Dancing Swans

Hitchin is a treasure trove of Tudor delights. After my sugar rush, I set off to explore. The High Street, bursting with independent shops, antique boutiques, and quaint cafes, led me to a cobbled lane known as “The Old Mill”. The Old Mill was just breathtaking, a time capsule preserved perfectly in time with a small, gushing, crystal-clear river and ancient waterwheel. It felt like stepping back to a simpler time - just a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina and a romantic backdrop of history! I stood there, completely mesmerized, with the gushing waters churning the wheel like a ballet pirouette!

Next, I decided to check out Hitchin’s famous "Hitchin Lavender" farm. Now, the scent of lavender and my tutus are almost inseparable! I’ve been dreaming of starting a “Lavender Tutu” line, with each tutu featuring a different shade of lavender. Well, my inspiration for that line is positively blooming! It was quite a journey, a stroll past the rolling lavender fields, a sea of purple as far as the eye can see, with the air saturated with its fragrance. I found myself yearning to pirouette right in the centre of the field and let the soft lavender blooms caress my cheeks!

After all that walking, I discovered “The Priory” where I found myself standing at the foot of one of England’s most enchanting Medieval Priory gardens, where centuries-old walls, gnarled oaks and ancient paths surround a charming chapel. They're just heavenly! There was even a family of ducks frolicking in the stream - what a delightful sight. If you think swans are elegant, these ducks were doing their own mini pirouettes in the stream, which got me really wanting to show them a few professional moves. I just have to convince them! After all, isn't everyone secretly a ballerina, just waiting to blossom into their full, tutued glory?

Ballet Beneath the Stars

To top off this delightful day, I popped into the local library, and lo and behold, they had a free ballet performance scheduled! So exciting! My Tutu feels right at home at these ballet events - so graceful, and so very pink. As soon as the curtain lifted, I felt my whole heart soar. This isn't just any ballet, my loves, it was a street performance filled with dazzling contemporary movement. They blended classic elements with exciting new steps and the choreography, with the lighting and music creating a captivating visual. The theatre, with its plush, velvety seats and red curtain was more than just a place to watch ballet. I almost started doing pirouettes along with the dancers myself, it was so inspiring. But then again, isn’t that just part of my mission - to turn the world into one giant tutu-clad dance floor?

Later, when the last notes of the ballet were still echoing in my ears, I took a quiet stroll back towards the train station. The stars twinkling overhead, made me feel as if I was in some dreamy ballet sequence. I caught my reflection in one of the store windows - a pink-tutu-clad, starry-eyed ballet dream come true, and it occurred to me then that sometimes the most magical journeys aren't just across vast distances, but within ourselves, and I'm ready to show everyone how enchanting it can be. I'll just get everyone to wear a tutu - they’ll never go back!

Stay pink, my sweet dears!

Love, Emma,

xXx
