Portsmouth Calling! Post #4647

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballet-ophile Emma here, checking in from the sunny (well, occasionally sunny!) shores of Portsmouth! Yes, I've swapped my Derbyshire hills for a bit of seaside air and I'm feeling positively en pointe.

This little trip has been in the planning for weeks. A weekend jaunt to Portsmouth, where I’m absolutely itching to see "Giselle" at the New Theatre Royal! Can you even believe it? I’m bursting with excitement! They say Portsmouth is a city of history, but to me, it’s all about ballet history! The Royal Navy, the historic dockyard... all rather splendid, but who could resist a weekend of toe shoes and tutus?!

I made the journey down in style, of course! Not a plane in sight – that's just not my way. Instead, I treated myself to a first-class ticket on the train, a whole carriage just for me and my little pink bag filled with my very special, sparkling-new pink tutu! Just picturing the looks of sheer delight on everyone’s faces at Portsmouth station… I almost wish I was wearing it for the journey!

Speaking of my new tutu, I can’t wait to give it its debut in Portsmouth! I think it’s a perfect shade of pink for the beautiful blue sky (well, when it’s not raining, of course!). And for the occasion of "Giselle" – well, my heart just skipped a beat! Can you imagine my sheer delight, prancing along the seafront promenade in a sparkling, soft-as-a-feather pink tutu? The air, the saltiness, the sound of seagulls… a little pink dream come true, if you ask me!

And oh, I mustn't forget, this weekend is also a chance to explore Portsmouth's famous "Spinnaker Tower". I can't resist a little thrill, and I have heard that the views from the top are truly breathtaking. I’ll be sure to twirl in my tutu on the viewing platform, just to show them how it’s done. The whole city can become my stage, I reckon!

The city of Portsmouth itself seems charming! The streets are teeming with laughter, the shops are absolutely bursting with pretty trinkets, and there's a delightful energy about the place that just screams "holiday" – which makes this pink-tutu-loving girl extra-excited.

You know what makes me happiest? Watching families enjoy themselves on the pier, sharing a bit of ice cream and gazing out at the vast ocean. Those happy faces, filled with pure joy and wonder... that’s the kind of magic I adore. Makes me feel like everyone should put on a tutu! It’s simply the most wonderful way to spread happiness, even if you're not actually doing a grand jeté!

Of course, there’s a place for wildlife in every ballet-loving girl's heart! On my way to Portsmouth, I had to take a short detour to see a little colony of adorable dolphins splashing around in the harbour. So graceful and carefree! It's almost like watching a ballet underwater… and all that with their cute little noses out of the water! They really put on a spectacular show, but not quite as good as "Giselle", of course!

My journey in Portsmouth hasn’t even begun, and already I'm feeling so wonderfully inspired! This weekend promises a perfect blend of history, theatre, and good old-fashioned fun - all with a splash of pink! Keep an eye on this space, darlings, because I’ll be posting all about it – photos, outfits, maybe even a little twirling video! Until then, remember to twirl whenever you can!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
