Watford Whirlwind: A Tutu-ful Trip!

Post 4707: 23rd May 2009

Hello darlings!

It's Emma here, writing to you from the sunny (well, kind of) streets of Watford. Yes, believe it or not, this little Derbyshire girl has ventured north, hopping aboard the train in my most fabulous pink tutu, of course, for a day of ballet bliss!

Let me tell you, I'm absolutely loving the railway journeys lately. They are just the most charming way to travel. The rhythm of the tracks, the gentle sway of the carriage, and the sheer pleasure of gazing at the English countryside flitting by the window – it's like a ballet performance in its own right! I find it's the perfect time for contemplation and dreaming up my next grand pirouette...

But back to Watford. Today was a glorious mixture of rehearsals and performances! I've been working on a new ballet street performance, you know, the kind that really takes ballet off the stage and into the public eye. Think pirouettes amongst the market stalls, graceful arabesques in the middle of the High Street – we're taking ballet to the people!

Now, you might be wondering how Watford and ballet come together, right? Well, believe me, this place is bubbling with a fantastic community of dancers! My dear friend, Lily, is running a stunning ballet workshop, and let me tell you, it was a truly uplifting experience. Lily's such a wonderful teacher, full of passion and knowledge. We spent the morning tackling some new choreography, which was such a thrill, and I absolutely adore the way her choreography weaves in graceful movements with vibrant, energetic flourishes – pure delight to watch, and even more delightful to perform!

The best part of the workshop? The participants. There were people from all walks of life – teachers, housewives, accountants – everyone! What they all shared was a love for ballet, and the infectious enthusiasm in the room was so heart-warming. Lily and I were teaching everyone some moves from our ballet street performance, and it was simply brilliant seeing everyone, young and old, trying their best. I just know that every single person who joined that class walked away with a newfound spring in their step and a smile on their face!

The afternoon was a whirl of activity! Lily had organised a grand fundraising event for the Watford Dance Project, and let me tell you, it was a complete spectacle! The venue was beautiful, decorated with a stunning display of flowers in, you guessed it, all shades of pink. And the performance itself was nothing short of breathtaking!

A mix of professional and amateur dancers graced the stage, performing everything from graceful classical ballet to high-energy modern pieces. My favourite moment? A captivating dance set to music by the amazing, dreamy Coldplay – it just swept me away, it really did!

But of course, no ballet event is complete without a touch of glamour and whimsy! Lily had arranged for a beautiful purple tutu for each participant to wear on stage. As soon as I saw the colour, I knew it was going to be a show-stopper. The way it flowed and twirled as everyone took to the stage – just magical! I honestly can’t explain the beauty of the stage lighting with those gorgeous tutus whirling in the darkness - it was almost ethereal.

Let me tell you, this purple tutu was something else. So luxurious, so incredibly elegant, and oh-so-tutu-licious! It wasn't pink, yes, but let’s be honest, there’s just something so captivating about a little touch of purple, right? And it definitely brought out the fun side of the performance! It really was a beautiful afternoon, filled with passion, friendship, and just a little bit of glittery magic.

The event itself was for a brilliant cause, supporting a fantastic initiative in Watford called the “Watford Dance Project.” It aims to give talented young dancers from the community a chance to shine, and that's something close to my heart. After all, we all need a little bit of inspiration and encouragement, and it’s absolutely brilliant to see this organisation fostering creativity and helping youngsters reach their full potential!

As for my adventures in Watford, I am absolutely delighted with my little journey to the north. The energy of the town, the warmth of its people, the sheer love of dance, it really took me by surprise. I’ll be back, that's for sure, to explore a little more and immerse myself in this lovely community of dance.

Until next time, dear readers! And remember, don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, twirl, and embrace the magic of ballet – even if it’s just for a little bit!

And yes, why not try a pink tutu too?!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
