Scarborough Calling! Post #4784 - A Pink Tutu Odyssey

Hello my darling tutudresses! It’s Emma here, back with another whirl through the world of twirls and sparkles, this time from the lovely seaside town of Scarborough! I must admit, I’m having a complete whale of a time here, even though it’s miles away from my beloved Derbyshire.

Now, let's be honest, a seaside holiday is usually my excuse to stuff my face with fish and chips (and I’m definitely not ashamed!), but this trip has taken on a whole new dimension thanks to a fantastic opportunity – I was invited to take part in a charming ballet performance at the Scarborough Spa! And guess what? The fabulous choreographer thought I'd be perfect for a solo, with a twist. Yep, she asked me to dance in a stunning European-style tutu!

Just picturing it all makes me want to twirl. It was the most intricate tutu I've ever seen – layers and layers of tulle, embellished with delicate embroidery and hand-stitched flowers, all in soft, pale pinks and lavenders. Honestly, it was like wearing a cloud – it practically floated. And my shoes? Golden satin pumps, shimmering with every step. Oh, my heart fluttered! I felt like a fairytale princess in a ballet recital!

And let me tell you, the Scarborough Spa was absolutely breath-taking! All those beautiful chandeliers, the Victorian architecture, the sweeping staircases…it just screamed "grand finale!" I even found a little tea room that served delicious cream teas!

I did have to share the stage with some adorable furry friends, though – it wasn’t a typical ballet by any means! The show was all about animals. There were graceful, prancing horses that performed in perfect synchronisation – how on earth do they train them to do that? A gaggle of cheeky little monkeys, swinging from ropes and pulling silly faces. And some penguins – who wouldn’t want a penguin ballerina in their life, really?! All in all, the whole thing was just brilliant, a wonderful blend of grace, humour, and captivating visuals.

Speaking of grace, the seaside has always been a perfect location for capturing my ballet spirit, and let me tell you, I had an amazing time capturing some lovely shots in the afternoon sunshine! We even stumbled upon a charming little Victorian-era tearoom – imagine, dainty pink finger sandwiches and pot after pot of steaming hot Earl Grey. It was delightful!

The day wasn't just about my fabulous ballet performance though, it was also a chance to see a little bit of the gorgeous North Yorkshire coastline.

We even stopped at the magnificent Scarborough Castle, perched majestically on a hill overlooking the harbour. You know, the very same one where Henry VIII once held court! The history! Of course, I wore a tutu as I wandered around the old ruins – I can't help it! The colour pink and historic ruins always just click for me. And I was lucky enough to spot some friendly seals lazing on the beach - who can resist their adorable little snoozing faces?

The journey here, of course, was almost as exciting as the performance. Taking the train to Scarborough is always a treat! The windows framing those idyllic views of rolling hills, quaint villages, and fields of wild flowers – it’s always a good time for dreaming up future dance routines! You can find some of my pictures of the view on my Instagram. Follow me at @pinktutudream for all the latest. And, of course, there's also the added bonus of all that glorious time spent enjoying the train's refreshments! (Can't go wrong with a good old-fashioned afternoon tea!)

But, you know, a journey can be so much more than just getting from A to B. I sometimes get inspired to write about a particular ballet theme that fits the day. It makes it even more special, turning my usual trip into a full-blown 'Pink Tutu Odyssey' for my readers. Who wouldn’t want to wear a pink tutu and go for a horse ride, watching the countryside whiz by?!

To my wonderful tutudresses, you’re the reason I dance, the reason I blog, and the reason I share my passion for ballet. I know we can make ballet a phenomenon! Remember, anyone can wear a tutu! You can twirl with your girlfriends, in the street, in a park – the world is your stage. So put on that fabulous tutu, find your happy place and let your inner ballerina shine!

Yours in tutus,

Emma
