Scarborough Calling! #5042

Hello my lovelies! It's Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to the seaside, and oh, how I just adore Scarborough! It's a place that reminds me of seaside holidays as a child, with the smell of fish and chips, the screech of seagulls, and the gentle thrumming of the waves against the shore.

This trip was a little different though, a touch more sophisticated. I mean, I couldn't just rock up in my trusty red tutu and go for fish and chips with the family, could I? Well, actually I could, but it felt like an opportunity for a little "Emma on the go" photoshoot. So, I grabbed my most fabulous pink tutu (a new arrival, and the pinkest pink imaginable!) and hit the beach with a newfound spring in my step!

My Scarborough sojourn began with a train journey - I'll admit I'm a little bit of a train enthusiast. I find something so romantic about travelling by rail, chugging along through the countryside, watching the world go by. Plus, the carriage is usually the perfect spot to indulge in my current book, and there's nothing quite like the clickety-clack of the tracks to get my creative juices flowing. This time, I was enjoying "The Little Paris Bookshop" by Nina George - utterly charming!

As soon as I stepped onto Scarborough station platform, the scent of salty air was exhilarating. The sky was an electric blue, and I knew this trip was going to be amazing. I hopped onto a cute little bus that deposited me right at the heart of the seaside action.

I couldn't resist starting my day with a fish and chips - crispy batter and a good old portion of cod. Delicious! After I'd enjoyed a leisurely lunch, I found a cosy little cafe overlooking the harbour. The view was just spectacular, with sailboats bobbing on the turquoise water and the faint sound of distant music. I tucked into a cup of steaming latte and had a go at sketching in my travel journal, using the vibrant hues of Scarborough as inspiration.

I know you're wondering, where does the ballet fit into all of this, right? Well, my loves, ballet always makes its way in, one way or another. In the evening, I was lucky enough to see the most gorgeous outdoor ballet performance. A talented troupe danced beneath the twinkling stars, their silhouettes a perfect blend of movement and emotion against the dark, night sky. I'm pretty sure my tutu-loving heart could have exploded with joy!

There was something magical about watching these dancers perform in such an unconventional setting. I've seen plenty of grand ballets in grand theatres, but this, this felt special. Intimate, almost. It made me think about the freedom of expression, the way a single dancer could captivate an audience with their movements and storytelling, just like that, with no scenery, just a beautiful stage set against the vast, ever-changing sky.

Afterwards, as I wandered back to my little B&B, I realised how inspired I felt. This whole trip was just what I needed, a reminder that ballet isn't confined to a theatre, a stage, a classroom. It's everywhere! You just need to open your eyes and your mind to see it.

So, to finish off, here are a few tips for a fabulously pink tutu-inspired trip to Scarborough:

  • Hit the beach! Scarborough has a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach. Take a picnic, put on your dancing shoes, and twirl around to your heart's content.
  • Don't forget to capture the moments. My little Canon camera never leaves my side, and it’s already filled with stunning Scarborough pictures. There's something so wonderfully evocative about a seaside photo.
  • Go horse riding on the beach. Now this one is a real treat. The wind in your hair, the sand under your feet, and the gentle rhythm of the horse - you'll be galloping to your heart's content in no time!
  • Embrace the outdoors! Explore the wild North Yorkshire coastline - it’s simply breathtaking. The air is clean and crisp, the waves are a gentle murmur, and the skies are vast. And, most importantly, don’t forget to spot some wildlife – there’s plenty around, and it's always a treat to see some puffins or seals.

And finally, dear readers, always remember: the world is a stage. And your tutu? It’s your costume, your expression of yourself, your permission to dance and shine wherever you are. Whether you're in Derbyshire, Scarborough, or halfway across the globe, you can spread the pink tutu love and encourage everyone to dance!

See you next time, lovelies!
