Croydon Calling: Pink Tutu Takes the Town!

Hello darlings!

It’s your girl Emma, back with another adventure from the pinkest corners of the globe. Today, we're skipping over to Croydon, the charming town with a cheeky edge that always holds a special place in my tutu-clad heart.

Remember that time I rode a horse all the way from Derbyshire to Nottingham in a pink tutu? It's hard to beat that day, but I gotta say, Croydon was a close second. Not in terms of distance, but in terms of sheer fun and feeling like the ultimate ballerina queen.

The train journey was magical, you know? I settled in by the window, gazing out at the lush green countryside that’s so quintessentially British. The sun was shining, the air was crisp and fresh, and a little blackbird was having a proper sing-song. All of this felt like it was made just for me, so of course, I had to post a little pic of my journey for the Insta fam! My caption? "En route to Croydon in my pinkest paradise. Who needs a royal carriage when you can have a comfy train seat?" I am never NOT feeling like royalty when I’m wearing my pink tutu, darling. 😉

You can find me in my usual happy place – the ballet studio. Today, I had a private lesson with a dear friend of mine, Sarah. You’ve met Sarah in some of my past posts, the amazing teacher with an endless reservoir of creativity and the most wicked sense of humour. I'll confess, sometimes I just let Sarah take me to a whole new place with my dance, completely off the beaten path. A little bit of exploration never hurts! It really helps to see your craft with fresh eyes, you know? I’m sure you’d agree!

Oh, and did I mention, I wore my favourite pink tutu, the one with the sparkly little butterfly sewn on the side? Of course, Sarah’s got a great sense of style. She wore a magnificent sapphire-blue tutu with swirling silver glitter that practically radiated ✨️

After a supercharged hour in the studio, I hit the town. My friend Millie and I were planning on a long, lazy lunch at her new favourite vegan cafe in town – The Avocado Tree. My love for vegan food? It’s deep, darling, but it’s got nothing on my passion for animals, which you all know about. I actually once rescued a baby squirrel who’d fallen out of its nest and decided to do a bit of ballet in a very peculiar way... you’ll have to check that blog post! 🐿️ Anyways, my main priority this afternoon is the animal-friendly menu! I'll be sipping on a lavender and almond milk latte and devouring their signature ‘Golden Turmeric Vegan Tofu Scramble.’ Honestly, they’re amazing at that cafe, even their veggie burgers can't be beat. And as if the food isn’t divine enough, Millie said she saw a pair of robins having a picnic on the table in the courtyard! Just how delightful is Croydon becoming?!

As the afternoon melted into the twilight hour, Millie and I strolled towards the town's beloved theatre, the Croydon Palace Theatre. A gorgeous historic landmark that holds such special memories for me. We had our tickets for an incredible ballet show. You guys, this production of "Giselle" was on a whole other level. The sheer artistry and drama of each scene had Millie and I swooning in our seats, practically taking our tutus out and twirling with excitement. The lead dancers were simply flawless, each pirouette and grand jeté captivating us. And the costumes, oh, my word! So opulent, like dreamt up by a true artist! It left me craving ballet so hard that we ended the night with a cheeky late-night twirl session outside the theatre – with a little added jazz.

Our night wouldn't have been complete without some Croydon-inspired souvenirs. Millie's got her eye on the stunning limited edition tote bag, complete with a stunning black and white photograph of the iconic Croydon Clocktower. And as for me? Of course, I had to nab a pretty pink vintage pin of the Palace Theatre. It's practically a calling, these souvenir hunts!

Let's be honest, sometimes even the most sophisticated ballerinas need a little break from the ballet life! I’ve discovered, and maybe you can relate, the true joys in the little moments. It can be the smell of freshly brewed tea after a demanding day of practice or simply seeing a group of friends gathering after a beautiful performance, buzzing from the night’s events! But one thing's for sure, I've always got a spring in my step. Whether I'm strolling through the heart of Croydon, enjoying a delightful vegan meal with friends, or getting lost in the elegance of a grand ballet show, I never miss a chance to soak it all in and embrace my inner ballerina queen. Because you know what? Life, like ballet, is all about embracing those moments, taking the lead, and never missing an opportunity to express ourselves, no matter how unconventional it may seem!

Croydon, you were absolutely enchanting!

P.S. You’ll be delighted to hear I found another amazing pink tutu at the cutest vintage shop in the town center! So I’ll be back soon to wear it for more Croydon adventures. But that’s a story for another post… 💖
