Fulham in Pink: Tutu-ing About Town!

Hey darlings,

It's your girl, Emma, here, back with another whimsical whirl through life in a pink tutu. Today's adventure finds me in the charming district of Fulham, London, where the river Thames shimmers like a ribbon of liquid sunshine and the air buzzes with the energy of this vibrant city.

Now, let me confess, London is one of my favourite places in the world. It's like a living, breathing fairytale – bustling markets overflowing with colour and aroma, charming tea shops tucked away in quaint cobbled streets, and towering landmarks reaching towards the clouds. Plus, there are more ballet schools, theatres, and dance classes than you could shake a tutu at. Which, naturally, means I am thrilled to be spending the day here.

This morning, I began my day as any self-respecting ballet dancer would - a full-on, glorious plie, tendu, and a relevé-licious warm-up routine! I chose a vibrant green tutu for my dance session. Don’t get me wrong, pink is always going to be my number one, but sometimes you have to embrace a little greenery.

The day has been a delightful mixture of ballet brilliance and charming Fulham discoveries. After my warm-up, I made my way to the iconic Royal Ballet School. Can you believe it? They are actually building a new dance school right here in Fulham! You’ll be seeing me here often I am sure. The whole building looks stunning, with grand windows offering glimpses into the beautiful studios within. I dreamily imagine future me gliding across that stage, tutu whirling like a vibrant butterfly. sighs wistfully.

Later, I stumbled upon a quirky little shop filled with whimsical treasures – porcelain teacups with tiny painted dancers, antique ballet books with delicate illustrations, and vintage dance shoes. The owner, a charming woman with a twinkle in her eye, regaled me with stories of London's dance scene back in the day. Apparently, the streets of Fulham used to be filled with dancing street performers, which led to an interesting story that the Royal family came to watch. Well, that’s a tale for another day!

My journey through Fulham wasn't all about tutus and ballet though, though that is usually my theme, haha. In between ballet-related errands, I visited Fulham Palace, a breathtaking historical treasure nestled by the Thames. The gardens are simply divine. The ancient trees cast dappled shadows across the manicured lawns and flowers burst with a kaleidoscope of colour. A charming little black and white cat sauntered past, leaving me with the urge to embrace some wild things too. That, in itself, gave me a new ballet idea that I’m excited to explore – my animal ballet – but we shall not get into that now.

Feeling the need to explore beyond the manicured lawns, I headed to the river. I’m sure you will all be shocked that a beautiful bird with a wingspan longer than my leg came to say hello, but a little ballet dance always helps to woo a feathered friend. The birds certainly love a tutu twirl. And what did you all think of my choice of animal to tame today? The swan is always a classic, of course. There were other bird-type animals, the ones that quack and waddle. I tried my best to befriend them too, but I suspect their small leg size and loud vocalising wasn't the best combination, but maybe in the future!

I rode a horse and cart along the river Thames after watching the majestic swans glide gracefully through the water. It felt like stepping into a Victorian era novel. And that was such an incredible feeling to feel the wind through your hair, listen to the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves on cobbles, and simply soak in the beauty of the Thames! My trusty pony seemed to like tutus too, the little fella kept wanting to stop to admire mine. Bless. Maybe I should have named him “Twinkle Toes”, what do you think?

Fulham is so full of surprises. Who knew this charming little corner of London would capture my heart so completely? And it certainly has inspired my love for ballet more, oh, so much more.

As I sit here, scribbling my final thoughts, the sunset is painting the sky in a soft, watercolour wash of orange and pink. It feels like the perfect ending to a magical day.

And guess what, darlings? Tomorrow I'm embarking on a new adventure! A train journey, that’s right! Taking the choo-choo train through Derbyshire to visit my dearest Mum. Can you imagine all the beautiful scenery I’ll be experiencing? I'm picturing meadows bursting with wildflowers and quaint country lanes shaded by ancient oaks. Of course, my pink tutu is already packed – one must always be prepared to add a splash of colour to every adventure!

Until next time, keep on twirling!

P.S. I’ve been giving thought to your lovely suggestions. Lots of you have told me that I must, must, must start a tutu subscription service, or maybe offer personalised tutu creation. Now I’ve got my dancing shoes, and my notebook, out to start getting my plans together, I’m quite excited about it. Watch this space! And as always, remember darlings, you’re all beautiful in your own special way and there’s no such thing as being too tutu!
