Gateshead: Tutu-tastic Trip & a Red Revelation!

Hello my darling dancers! Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving blogger extraordinaire, reporting live from the wonderfully whimsical world of…Gateshead! Yes, you heard right! This little Derbyshire lass is venturing north of the border for some cultural delights and a whole lot of tutu-tastic fun.

You see, my dears, I’m all about embracing the beauty of movement, wherever it may lead. And this week, it's led me to a fascinating city with a vibrant arts scene and an intriguing history. I'm so excited to be sharing my adventures with you.

First things first, the train journey itself was pure bliss! I absolutely adore travelling by train - the gentle rumble, the scenery whizzing by, and of course, the chance to people-watch! It’s such a calming and inspiring way to travel. And on this particular day, I decided to spice things up a little by adding a pop of colour - I mean, what’s a train journey without a bit of fabulous flair? So, I whipped out my cherry red tutu, a little bit of sparkle, and voilà, I was ready for a delightful day of exploration.

Reaching Gateshead, I was immediately charmed by its industrial past and the captivating contrast of the Tyne Bridge standing tall over the River Tyne. This city definitely has that intriguing mix of grit and grace!

My mission for the day? To immerse myself in all things dance. Of course! What’s a ballerina to do, darling? The magnificent Sage Gateshead was the first stop on my itinerary. Imagine my delight at stepping into such an iconic building! The sweeping curves, the vast spaces, it felt like a dream! They held a ballet workshop led by the incredible Northern Ballet, and let me tell you, my fellow tutu enthusiasts, these dancers were incredible. The passion in their movements, the elegance in their steps, it was pure inspiration. I must say, the opportunity to try out a few ballet poses myself after the class felt utterly fabulous!

As the afternoon sun bathed Gateshead in golden light, I ventured to the stunning Gateshead Millennium Bridge - a beautiful architectural wonder. Here I sat for a while, the city unfolding before me, just watching the people go about their day, each carrying their own stories. I pondered how our own unique stories blend into the vast tapestry of the human experience - and what a joy it is to dance through life together! I'll admit, it made me want to get out there and create my own movement masterpiece in the form of a performance… maybe next time!

The evening culminated with a fabulous visit to The Theatre Royal for a truly remarkable ballet performance. This time, my tutu was swapped for a sleek black dress, just a little something to celebrate the evening! It felt utterly exhilarating, with every twist, every turn, every arabesque... just sublime. The energy on the stage was palpable, and I found myself swept up in the magic of it all.

But even in a place bursting with dance, it wouldn't be a true Emma adventure without a little bit of wildlife watching, now, would it? This lovely city has an abundance of parks, so I found a picturesque little spot along the riverbank where I had a charming encounter with a flock of playful pigeons. The chirps and coos were rather melodious, I must say! I sat and watched them dart about, each tiny movement a graceful little ballet of their own.

It truly amazes me how even in the heart of a city, we can still find moments of peace and connection with nature. It reminded me of the power of movement in all its forms.

And oh, dear reader, I have something to tell you. As I sat there in Gateshead, amidst the city's magic and my reflection in the flowing river, I realised that sometimes it's not all about the classic pink tutu, my lovely dancers. Yes, pink is my love, my true passion… But the world is filled with other brilliant hues waiting to be embraced. So, I took a chance and swapped my beloved pink for a bold, daring red tutu.

Let me tell you, the feeling was utterly liberating! It was like a jolt of energy, a call to step out of my comfort zone and embrace a new kind of fabulous. I know that a little pink can brighten up any day, but it's important to remember that beauty and boldness come in all colours. This little red experiment? It made me feel like a fearless flamenco dancer, full of fire and zest for life!

My darlings, I encourage you all to take a leap of faith - to try a new colour, explore a new art form, venture to a new city! Life is a journey meant to be savored, each step an exciting adventure!

Remember, every day is a chance to dance, to create, to experience the magic that awaits around every corner. Embrace your inner ballerina, your unique spirit, and don't be afraid to twirl in your own colourful style.

Until next time, my lovelies,

Emma
