Urmston Calling: Pink Tutu Adventures in a Northern Paradise

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing ballerina extraordinaire, and I'm buzzing to tell you all about my whirlwind trip to Urmston!

It’s been a busy week here in Derbyshire. There was a special exhibition at the Derby Museum showcasing the works of a talented local ceramicist. Of course, I went decked out in my signature pink tutu and my latest favourite pair of pale pink velvet slippers, just to add a little sprinkle of extra fabulousness. It’s amazing how even a touch of pink can make everything seem more magical, wouldn’t you agree?

But the real adventure started with my journey to Urmston. Forget boring buses or driving – this time I decided to go by train. The chugging of the train, the click-clack of the tracks, it’s like stepping into a vintage romance novel, only with a bit more comfort and maybe less drama. I indulged in a cuppa (and a little something sweet) whilst watching the English countryside zip by, all the vibrant autumn hues painted on the landscape – absolute perfection!

The moment I stepped into Urmston, I was instantly charmed. The charming, quaint streets, independent shops bursting with unique treasures, the gentle bustle – it had a wonderfully warm atmosphere that felt like home. I felt myself get a little giggly with excitement, because I could already imagine how many pink-tutu worthy locations Urmston was about to offer!

I strolled along the main road, my trusty pink tutu twirling playfully at my side. I was so happy, and I realised that - gasp! - Urmston is the perfect setting for a spontaneous ballet photo shoot. So, a photo shoot it was!

I picked out a delightful little flower shop, a burst of colour and fragrance, a haven for bees and butterflies – just like my soul! A photo op that was pure fairytale! There were vintage clothes shops filled with frocks begging to be twirled in, so naturally I had to indulge. And for those of you who are curious, my latest vintage find is a 1950s velvet dress with delicate pearl detailing that is calling my name for the next ballet class. It is screaming 'retro elegance!'

A stop at a cozy local cafe for a bite of warm quiche (because everyone needs a delicious pastry treat during their adventures) and I found myself face to face with a friendly, chatty dog walker who just had to ask, “Where are you off to with that magnificent pink tutu? It’s like something from the circus!” She even said, "You look like you belong on stage!". A little giggle bubbled up inside, as I replied, “Why, thank you, you too could have your own circus! In fact, I reckon a bright pink tutu would really elevate a circus act! Wouldn't that be fab?" She gave me the most endearing smile and, with a playful twinkle in her eye, said, “I might just have to try that! " She definitely sparked a good chuckle from me, I swear my eyes even crinkled! I may have convinced her to rock a tutu too - who knows?!

Urmston is just bursting with interesting people and fascinating places! This lovely town was truly a treat for my pink tutu heart. I even saw the most spectacular double rainbow arched over a church steeple, which only added to the fairytale quality of this delightful adventure. I thought to myself, “Well, wouldn't this make a stunning back drop for a ballet performance!” It was magical!

Of course, what's a trip to any new town without a little ballet class? I found a lovely little dance studio right on the main street, the name, ‘Twinkle Toes,’ sounded a bit cheesy but there was definitely a whimsical charm to it. They were having a drop-in session on 'Ballet Barre', perfect! I signed up instantly and, to my delight, it wasn't just ‘old hands’ taking part – a whole mix of different ages were having a good time. It was truly heartwarming! The studio was buzzing with positive energy. I even spotted some children taking ballet classes. This was a great opportunity to show the next generation that ballet isn’t just a dance - it’s an experience! It’s the opportunity to truly feel free!

One of the benefits of a day out is trying some local cuisine. I opted for a scrumptious plate of fish and chips - I couldn’t resist! It was a simple dish done with such flavour, and paired with my homemade strawberry and pink grapefruit iced tea, it was perfection! Of course, no outing is complete without a good dose of people watching, and that was absolutely fabulous too! From couples strolling hand in hand to a group of kids making a raucous racket playing frisbee, I couldn't help but be enthralled by the scene unfolding before my eyes.

As evening descended, painting the sky with hues of lavender and crimson, I realised my day trip to Urmston had become more than just a pretty adventure. It was a journey of rediscovering joy. A little reminder to embrace life's little surprises, to let my pink tutu guide my path, to smile at every unexpected delight, and to remember that magic can be found in even the most unexpected corners of our world!

From a charming dance studio to vibrant market stalls, from friendly local cafe owners to inspiring architecture, my pink tutu and I felt right at home.

So, if you find yourself craving a dash of adventure, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Urmston! This quirky northern town is full of warmth, charm, and endless opportunities for finding that little bit of sparkle in everyday life. But, whatever you do, remember my advice, when visiting any town, add a sprinkle of pink tutu to your adventures, you’ll never know what magical experiences are just around the corner!

Stay fabulous and until next time… keep twirling, darling!

Love,

Emma xxx
