Taunton Twirls: A Purple Tutu Adventure

Hello my darlings! It's your favourite pink-loving, tutu-wearing ballet fanatic Emma, writing to you from the picturesque town of Taunton, in sunny Somerset! Today, I’m switching up the pink and embracing a lovely lavender tutu – something a bit different to add a touch of whimsy to my day!

This little trip has been brewing in my mind for weeks. I knew I needed to get out of the Derbyshire countryside for a bit and I heard whispers of an amazing new ballet studio opening in Taunton. Of course, the moment I saw the stunning lilac interior, with all its glittering chandeliers and beautifully crafted barre, I knew I had to book a class!

I travelled by train, which is always a delightful experience. My love of all things railway goes way back to childhood – just ask my grandma, she still tells stories about the time I sat at the window mesmerised by the engine puffing smoke. I even pretended to be a ballerina on the carriage (thank goodness it wasn’t crowded!), and of course, my tutu went with me. I do think it makes travel a bit more fun, don't you?

Taunton itself is just lovely. I discovered a charming antique shop full of beautiful treasures, I saw a flock of elegant swans on the River Tone, and even spotted a friendly squirrel on my way to the studio. Oh, and let's not forget the tea! I'm quite certain it was the most perfect cup of Earl Grey I've ever had.

After my class – a joyful mix of pirouettes and elegant port de bras – I treated myself to a delicious cake and enjoyed watching the sunset from a lovely little park. The golden light casting over the town reminded me of the stage lights before a big performance. Speaking of performances, Taunton’s theatre scene is surprisingly vibrant, with an excellent ballet company that has a few interesting productions lined up in the coming weeks. I already have my tickets for their upcoming rendition of Swan Lake – a tutu is, naturally, the only outfit for that, don't you think?

This whole trip has been absolutely enchanting, making me feel as light and as joyful as a graceful dancer. I have to say, Taunton is a lovely little town, steeped in charm and beauty. It makes me think about the stories its old houses and cobblestone streets must hold, all waiting to be uncovered. There’s even a little horse riding stable that caught my eye – can you imagine galloping through the fields in a tutu? (A touch risky, I know, but I’m thinking of safety and practicality – my signature pink safety pins are already prepped for such an eventuality!)

Now, this brings me to something important – a message I keep reminding myself of and try to share with everyone I meet. Remember, darling, you can do anything! That's what the wonderful world of ballet teaches us: you just need a bit of passion, dedication, and perhaps a touch of sparkle – the pink kind, of course! You too can find joy in the twirls and leaps, in the rhythm of a perfect arabesque. I am dedicated to spreading the tutu love and inspiring you all to try this beautiful art form. We all have a bit of ballerina in us, you just have to let it shine through!

Now, I’m off to discover what other adventures Taunton has in store for me. Until next time, darlings! Keep your toes pointed and your spirits high!

With love and a flurry of pink tutus,

Emma x
