TutuBlog Post #7174: Abingdon Adventures with a Narrow Tutu

Hello darlings! Emma here, and today I’m bursting with excitement to tell you all about my weekend trip to Abingdon. As you know, I adore travelling, and a little jaunt by train is one of my favourite ways to get around. This time, the destination was a beautiful, quaint little town, steeped in history and bursting with charm – Abingdon.

Before I tell you about my adventures, a little confession: I had to pack a narrow tutu. You know, the kind that swishes just so when you pirouette and doesn’t get caught on anything. A tiny bit more practicality than usual – the streets of Abingdon are cobbled, you see!

We arrived on a crisp February morning, the air filled with that crisp freshness only the countryside can offer. It was the perfect time of year to explore the historical beauty of Abingdon. I, of course, was enthralled by the sight of the Abingdon Abbey – it just screamed "medieval fairytale" with its beautiful architecture and soaring bell tower. My camera clicked non-stop, and I swear, the light that day was magical.

As always, my ballet obsession followed me everywhere I went. There was a charming little dance school in a quiet courtyard, and I just had to peek inside! Seeing those little girls learning the graceful art of ballet, I was completely swept up in the magic of it all. I could almost hear the soft music, the patter of tiny feet, and the gentle guidance of their teacher. If I could encourage everyone to experience the joy of ballet, I truly would.

Our afternoon was a delicious mix of local charm and cultural delight. A visit to the Abingdon Town Hall, an incredibly elegant building that had once housed the Abingdon Market, brought back a fascinating piece of history. Later, a trip to the nearby Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, just a short train ride away, gave me my dose of culture and historical wonder. Seeing the breathtaking artifacts and exhibitions was pure joy for a lover of art and history like myself.

But the day wasn’t all about history and museums. After a delicious picnic in the grounds of Abingdon Abbey (let’s be honest, sandwiches taste better when eaten amongst such stunning surroundings), we went exploring the town’s many quaint streets. I discovered a tiny, enchanting little bookshop with a magnificent collection of ballet books! Needless to say, I couldn’t resist adding a couple more beauties to my ever-growing collection.

I love discovering the wildlife wherever I go. On this trip, a cheeky little fox greeted us as we wandered through the park, its bushy tail a delightful surprise. A flash of crimson in the dappled sunlight, it looked almost magical, and it definitely brought a smile to my face!

By evening, I was tired but thoroughly content, full of wonderful memories and an absolute appreciation for this lovely little town. As I relaxed in our charming guest room, the air thick with the scent of lavender from the lavender sachets on the pillows (how perfectly fitting for a tutu-loving girl like myself!), I felt a pang of regret for leaving.

But one thing was for sure, this trip to Abingdon will stay with me, a delightful reminder of the beauty and joy that can be found just outside our doors, the perfect escape for any busy ballerina seeking a little magic and a whole lot of pink!

Don’t forget, darlings, pink is the new black and ballet is the new everything!

See you tomorrow, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
