Wellington Wanderings in a Green Tutu

#TutuBlog Post Number 7215

Darling readers, it's Emma here, writing to you from the windswept, but oh-so-charming city of Wellington, New Zealand! Yes, I've swapped the rolling hills of Derbyshire for the rugged coastline of the South Island, and my heart is positively brimming with excitement. This trip has been a long time coming, and what better way to kick off this grand adventure than with a vibrant, spring-green tutu twirling in the fresh New Zealand air?

Honestly, choosing a tutu for this trip was quite the dilemma. Pink, of course, would have been the obvious choice. I mean, pink IS my signature hue! But sometimes, even a diehard pink devotee like me needs to break out of the colour box. I settled on this delightful shade of green because it reminded me of those glorious fern-filled valleys that Wellington is famed for. And let me tell you, it’s been a total winner. I’ve had so many delightful encounters with friendly Kiwis, eager to discuss the finer points of tutu fashion. Who knew this vibrant green shade was so popular Down Under? It's like a touch of magic.

Speaking of magic, my journey to Wellington was anything but ordinary. It started with a grand train adventure that whisked me through the heart of England, my darling, loyal Labrador, Buddy, snoring soundly by my side. A few connecting flights later, and I found myself soaring over the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean. Honestly, I’m still dreaming about that epic sunset view! It was just stunning.

Now, I know what you're thinking. “Emma, why no horse-riding adventures for this trip?" You see, dear readers, sometimes, even a horse-obsessed gal like me needs a little respite from the saddle. Wellington just seemed to call for a more graceful approach, a gentler touch of travel. And I’ll confess, it's been absolutely liberating.

Upon arriving in Wellington, I couldn’t help but be completely captivated by its quirky charm. The cobblestone streets lined with whimsical buildings painted in vibrant colours, the delightful cafes filled with laughter and the aroma of coffee, and the ever-present seagulls squawking their cheerful chorus, all painted a delightful picture of laid-back New Zealand life.

I’ve already filled my diary with an array of activities. Today, I'm exploring the Wellington Botanic Garden. Can you imagine, darling readers, a vast oasis of native ferns and flowering plants? I feel as though I've stepped into a magical, fairytale landscape, one where fairies dance and the air smells like fresh-baked gingerbread.

Tomorrow, I’m embarking on a journey to the Wairarapa, where I’ll be galloping across sprawling sheep farms on the back of a gentle steed. That's right, readers, I’ve rediscovered my love of the horse! But this time, it’s not the English countryside, but the rugged beauty of New Zealand that I’m riding through. Oh, the memories I shall make!

Naturally, my love for ballet has not been left behind. Last night, I treated myself to an absolutely glorious ballet performance at the iconic St James Theatre. The air crackled with excitement as the curtain rose on a beautiful production of Giselle. I simply could not resist a twirl in my green tutu in the lobby afterward, where a group of children, eyes sparkling with wonder, applauded with enthusiastic, "Bravo!"s. They’ve already requested I teach them some moves – watch this space, readers, maybe there’s a future ballet starlet in the making!

There is so much more to explore in Wellington, from the museums brimming with historical treasures to the charming cafes nestled on the harbourfront, I feel like every day brings a new, joyful discovery. I have a feeling, dear readers, that my stay in this enchanting city will be filled with memories to cherish forever.

In the meantime, I'll be busy chasing sunsets, collecting wildflowers, and twirling my green tutu to the beat of Wellington’s happy pulse.

Until next time, may your days be filled with pink tutus and sunshine,

Emma
