Weston-super-Mare: Where the Food-tastic Tutu Takes Flight! 🩰 🧁

Hello, darling dancers and tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma here, bringing you another delightful dose of pink from my little corner of the internet. This is post number 7306, and today we're heading to the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, where the sunshine and the sea air will inspire even the most jaded of ballerinas.

Now, I'm a creature of habit, and that habit is my trusty tutu. You all know by now I have a whole wardrobe bursting with tulle, but today, I've pulled out a special number for the occasion. It's a pink (of course!) creation emblazoned with miniature cupcakes and strawberries. It's my ode to the delicious treats that are surely in store in this charming seaside town. Who doesn't love a good ice cream on the beach, a hot dog by the pier, or a plate of chips wrapped in newspaper? Delicious.

To Weston we went, by train of course! There's something incredibly glamorous about stepping off a train at a coastal station, feeling the sea breeze brush against your face, and knowing an adventure awaits. I have to say, though, there's a bit of a rogue rogue squirrel I call "Percy" who lives at the Derbyshire train station... he has a tendency to try and eat my handbag, I do love the train. It gives me time to relax and observe the world go by, especially if it has an observation carriage. My favorite bit of the journey is watching the rolling green countryside give way to the shimmering expanse of the ocean.

Weston-super-Mare itself is like stepping into a vintage postcard, filled with the aroma of saltwater, fried fish, and fairground rides. I wandered along the promenade, the sun warming my face and the sound of the waves soothing my soul. This beach is famous for its unique "Grand Pier", it was quite magical in the setting sun. The sunset cast hues of purple and orange over the entire coastline. There was even a chap who played his accordion, it gave a wonderful musical accompaniment to my walk along the sand.

I found myself drawn to the smell of freshly baked cakes emanating from a charming little tea shop tucked away on a side street. How could I resist, I was dressed in a "Cake and Strawberry Tutu" for heaven's sake! The scones were delicious, served with lashings of clotted cream and strawberry jam, of course, accompanied by a steaming pot of Earl Grey tea. This really is the epitome of a "British summer". I love it when you go on an adventure and get that truly local experience.

A visit to the beach is never complete without a stroll along the promenade, so I wandered down, admiring the bustling seaside shops filled with colourful souvenirs and beachy knick-knacks. It’s wonderful how such small seaside towns become a centre point for everything to gather - there were street performers doing their thing, a donkey ride for children, an ice cream vendor (he had amazing looking pink and white "fairy floss ice cream"! A girl can't resist) and the unmistakable aroma of salt and candy floss permeating the air. I’m not a great lover of fairground rides. but even I had a go on the big wheel (after carefully pinning my tutu around me), It gave me the most wonderful bird's eye view of the entire coast, an incredibly special memory!

Being the ballet devotee that I am, a quick trip to Weston’s theatre was a must! The show wasn't a traditional ballet, but a heartwarming musical featuring the classic story of The Wind in the Willows. The auditorium itself was charming and beautiful, I had to buy a ticket, the performance was great! ( And of course, I wore my pink tutu with some lovely sparkly pink heels!) The performers had a captivating stage presence. The stories in these kind of musicals, while they are fictional, they often draw inspiration from life and nature - it’s a lovely escape for the mind. I was in the audience and mesmerized by the way they used their bodies to convey so many emotions - the tenderness, the humor, the moments of great suspense - just as beautiful in their own way as the classic ballet form.

And as dusk began to descend, casting a gentle glow on the beach, I reflected on my delightful day in Weston-super-Mare. The day had a "vintage fairytale" feel to it! - From the magical fairground lights, to the scent of saltwater and freshly baked cakes, to a theatre filled with the sweet sounds of music... This beachside town has such a romantic air! Even my food-tutu felt at home in this little English gem! This is what travel is about - embracing new places and filling your heart with joy and new experiences. Every new day is a chance to create your own ballet. Whether that is the elegance and grace of a classical performance or a spontaneous ballet you perform in the park with your friends... remember: we all have the potential to become "pink-tutu ballerinas"!

What are your favorite things about the British seaside? Do you ever wear your tutu while travelling? I’d love to hear your stories. Until next time, remember to dance, be bold, and embrace the pinkness of life!

Emma xoxo
