Mitcham Magic: A Tutu Tale in Pink! 💖

#TutuBlog - Post 7328

Hey gorgeous girls! Emma here, writing to you from the sunny streets of Mitcham! You know how much I adore exploring new places and discovering hidden gems, and Mitcham, with its charming vibe and unexpected ballet connection, totally stole my heart! 💖

It's not just any day, though. Today is the day I wear my most special tutu. I've saved it for a rainy day – literally! Today the heavens opened up, creating a scene right out of a dramatic ballet. A tutu this fine, a creation fit for a princess, wouldn't stand a chance against a rainstorm. But my Mitcham mission requires me to wear it, for the story behind this special day, you see, has all the makings of a beautiful ballet...

Let me rewind a bit. This morning, as I stood by the window in my Derbyshire cottage, watching the rain lash the fields, I had a sudden inspiration! This tutu – this luxurious, tulle dream in shades of rose, peach, and blush pink, with its dazzling crystals that glitter like stardust - deserves to be worn on the grand stage! And where else could that stage be than in the birthplace of a certain famous ballerina who was absolutely obsessed with the colour pink? I'm talking about the legendary Margot Fonteyn, of course! Mitcham, that's where it's at!

So, I grabbed my most beautiful vintage suitcase, crammed it with this dreamy tutu, a few pairs of stylish ballet flats, a floral sun hat for those moments the rain stops, and my ever-present ballet bag (just in case I need a quick pirouette or two on my adventures!). A few moments later, I was hopping on the train, the rhythmic clatter of the rails sounding like a symphony to my eager ears.

Now, as I arrive in Mitcham, a lovely gentleman – who I think might actually be a descendant of a past ballet master, for he had a certain air about him – pointed me in the direction of “The Forge” café. And what a place it turned out to be! All rustic charm, filled with locals sipping steaming mugs of tea, and with a delightful selection of pastries and cakes that looked like they were baked by the fairies themselves!

It's in this cafe that I had the most wonderful conversation with a kind, rosy-cheeked woman who reminded me of my grandma – although she looked like she was from a different time. It turns out, this beautiful lady is a walking history book! She told me about Margot Fonteyn and her passion for this little town, how the dancer often strolled through its cobbled streets, admiring the local bakeries and chatting with the friendly shopkeepers.

I imagined Fonteyn herself swirling in a dazzling pink tutu amidst the cobblestones, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she spied the newest ballet poster in the window of the village library. It was magical.

Fueled by the energy of this town, I wandered through its charming shops, marvelled at the colourful blooms in the town square, and even found myself being led on a merry little detour by a family of friendly ducks who, much like me, seemed to have fallen in love with the colourful charm of the place!

But what really stole my heart? Well, let me tell you! Tucked away in the corner of the village, I stumbled upon a small theatre. Not just any theatre, but one that seemed to be filled with the whispers of ballet! It was the "Fonteyn Theatre," an adorable venue that plays host to local performances and ballet classes! And to top it all off, there, painted on a little placard just outside the entrance, was an exquisite, vintage poster – with the most captivating image of Fonteyn herself. Dressed in the most beautiful pink tutu!

Well, you can guess what happened next. I danced my way into the theatre.

I did, I confess, spend a little too much time trying to mirror her iconic pose, getting swept away in the history and energy of the place.

Let's just say, I'm convinced this beautiful pink tutu has been designed for this very theatre!

Right now, I'm settling in at a quaint little guest house just a stone's throw from the theatre. The owner is the kind of delightful eccentric character who could step right out of a vintage novel – she even has a beautiful parrot who keeps singing a very catchy pink flamingo tune, which I've been humming for hours! The most perfect sound after a day in a place full of pink tutu magic!

Tomorrow, I'm going to see the Fonteyn Theatre ballet performance in a private rehearsal, and I've already convinced my darling new friends in Mitcham to watch alongside me!

There’s one more adventure I’ve got in mind. In the morning, I’ll set off in search of a stable – my way of connecting with nature, horses, and the magical land I'm currently living in.

Oh, and of course, I can’t resist a trip to the charming bakery in the village. Those pastries were divine! A delightful way to end my little fairytale trip to Mitcham!

So until next time, darling friends, remember – wear pink, wear tutus, dance with joy, and always explore the beauty of the world, one fairytale at a time! 🩰✨
