Scarborough Calling! #TutuBlog 7622
Oh, hello my darlings! Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to the seaside, where the air is filled with the scent of salty air and the sound of excited screams from the amusement park. I swear, the only thing missing was a carousel filled with adorable, little, pink tutu-wearing unicorns. Maybe I'll pitch that to the theme park owners… anyway!
Today's blog is dedicated to a little journey I took to Scarborough, a charming seaside town nestled on the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Now, as some of you know, this Derbyshire lass has a real soft spot for the north. I can't resist the friendly locals, the breathtaking scenery and, of course, the abundance of vintage shops. My life would be truly incomplete without the opportunity to hunt for a sparkly, sequin-covered tutu in a dusty, but oh-so-fabulous, second-hand shop. And this time was no different. I did indeed, find a glorious red tulle number that will be the star of my next blog post. Keep your eyes peeled!
My trip to Scarborough started in true fairytale fashion, by horse. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, a horse? That's not very environmentally friendly, is it?" But hear me out. I joined a local riding group on a sunrise trail, galloping across fields dappled with sunlight, with only the sound of birdsong and the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves to keep me company. It was the perfect start to my adventure and the horse was just so delightful.
After a quick pit stop to change out of my riding attire - think breeches, jodhpurs, the whole lot - I headed down to the train station. Something about trains takes me straight back to childhood, with their old-fashioned elegance, plush seats and views of the countryside whizzing by. I’d like to think the elegant style and heritage of the railway is what drew me to this elegant mode of transport. The rhythmic hum of the wheels is like a heartbeat, making everything feel so serene. Of course, it goes without saying that a fellow traveller always compliments my tutu and shares an encouraging smile or even a small piece of their yummy snacks, you know how it is. And there’s nothing quite like the friendly faces on the train and the chatter of everyone enjoying the view together. I wouldn't dream of missing this beautiful ritual.
Arriving at Scarborough, the first thing I did, was, of course, try a chip and a bit of fish, coated in beautiful vinegar. It’s such a classic, but nothing beats it at the seaside, does it? As the afternoon sun warmed the cobbled streets, I found myself drawn to the harbour. It was an absolute scene – sun-kissed skin, the vibrant blue sky reflected in the water and, yes, I must admit, a certain irresistible charm that only a seaside town can possess. I took my trusty little pink tutu – you know, the one I always keep in my handbag – and did a little pirouette for the amusement of passing tourists.
You should have seen their faces, filled with such wonder! "A pink tutu by the sea," I thought, "It doesn't get more enchanting than this!" That little dance by the sea truly made my day! I think it's safe to say, pink tutus work anywhere! As much as I’m in love with pink, it’s so great seeing people embracing different shades. I even had someone come up to me after to tell me how much they loved my red tutu! That is what ballet and pink is all about: embracing color and expressing yourself!
Later, after a long and happy afternoon in Scarborough, I sat by the sea and watched the sun dip below the horizon. A wave of inspiration struck me. What better way to celebrate the beauty of the natural world than by showcasing its magnificent wildlife! That's right, a bit later, on the outskirts of town, I happened upon a little colony of seals basking in the evening sun on the nearby rocky cliffs. Oh, I do love their sweet faces and gentle natures. These little bundles of fur and charm are a true symbol of freedom. My blog will be a special post about the graceful creatures. Watch this space!
That night, with a heart brimming with happiness and a smile so wide I felt like a Cheshire cat, I slipped into the sweetest little hotel room overlooking the sea. A big fluffy pink duvet was calling my name, but first I must write!
It really is magical, how the beauty of the seaside, the joy of travel, and the simplicity of life's little pleasures, like a fish and chips lunch and the sun on my skin, inspire such feelings of joy within me. Every day is a chance to dance. Every day is a chance to find that spark of creativity.
That, my loves, is what brings me such joy! If there’s one thing that this trip to Scarborough taught me, it's this: life is too short to not wear a tutu – pink, red, blue, green, doesn't matter!
So, go out there and embrace the day. Dance a little, travel a little, be a little bold, and remember that the world needs more pink tutus, and everyone should try ballet at least once in their lives!
Stay sparkling!
