Walsall Whirlwind: Tutu Time in the West Midlands!

Post Number: 7833

Hello my lovely lot, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com!

The sun is shining today in Derbyshire, so I feel super chirpy as I settle down to write to you. Yesterday, I had an amazing adventure - a proper Tutu Time in the West Midlands! Now, you might not know, but I have a special connection with Walsall – it's where I went to see my first ever professional ballet performance! The Birmingham Royal Ballet toured there way back when, and it sparked a flame within me that’s never gone out!

So, you can imagine how excited I was when I saw the chance to visit Walsall again, and not only that, I was going to have a real proper tutu time there too! My dear friend Fiona, who also has a passion for dance and fashion, suggested we do a little ‘tutu day out’ – just me and her, wearing our brightest, fluffiest tutus and making the most of our afternoon. I mean, who could say no to that?!

My chosen tutu for the day? It's a glorious, sunshine yellow creation that my dear Granny Ethel made me for my 18th birthday! It's all tulle and layers, with a beautiful bright pink bow tied around the waist – so perfectly girly, I tell you. It was a bit windy yesterday, but honestly, nothing could dampen my mood or this tutu’s gorgeous, voluminous, fabulousness.

First stop on the Walsall whirlwind was a visit to the town's stunning New Art Gallery Walsall. We had the best time taking snaps in front of the colourful sculptures and murals, Fiona spinning around in her teal tutu and me channeling my inner Swan Lake princess (just slightly more yellow and much more sparkly!). It was pure joy!

From the New Art Gallery, it was on to the stunning Walsall Arboretum, the oldest arboretum in the West Midlands! Now, if you know me, you’ll know I have a penchant for all things green and growing, especially when I’m wearing a tulle dream! Fiona, being the practical one, suggested we find a bench to relax on and have a spot of lunch, while I went wild for the botanical delights around us. I spotted a little family of squirrels gathering nuts – those little furry creatures always remind me of ballet leaps – they are so agile and graceful, just like a dancer!

After a lovely lunch, it was time to see what the local shopping scene in Walsall was all about. Honestly, there were so many quaint shops and little boutiques – it was just so much fun to browse. The best part? The sheer amount of people in pink and purple! I saw more tutus yesterday than I have in weeks, which made me super happy, as I’m on a mission to get the whole world in tutus! The colourful vibrancy was infectious and truly made for a brilliant atmosphere.

Later that evening, we finally made our way to the main attraction for the day: the iconic Grand Theatre, a historic Victorian jewel, tucked away in the heart of Walsall. Oh, the memories! It was here that I first saw the grace and majesty of professional ballet, so this felt like coming full circle. While it was just the theatre itself and no performance, it was wonderful to stand in front of that beautiful stage, and just imagine the countless stories, dances, and dramas that had played out upon it over the years.

The Walsall trip was a lovely reminder to be spontaneous, to embrace the unexpected, and to have fun wherever you go. As my grandmother Ethel would say: “The more twirling, the better the time!” And, she's always right! So, to those reading, my challenge to you is to get out there and find your own 'Tutu Time'! Find that place or moment that sparks your inner joy and celebrate it, no matter how silly it may seem. You might just surprise yourself with how much fun you have!

I’m off to continue practicing my barre work and maybe a bit of a grand jeté here at home - my lovely pink tutu from Grandma Ethel is demanding a twirl or two after such an adventurous day!

Until tomorrow, stay bright, beautiful, and oh so full of tulle!

Lots of love,

Emma
